The NAACP’s demand was spurred by the shooting death of Tyrin Johnson by National Guard members and the in-custody death of Darius Chappell.
The shooting happened with a DEA agent who was working with a team of agents to serve an arrest warrant at a Memphis hotel on Wednesday morning.
Data shows that there has been a 40% increase in jail bookings and bail hearings in Memphis during the task force’s deployment compared to last year.
