Ibrahim Rotich, the husband of a Kenyan Olympic long-distance runner Agnes Tirop, who was found dead this week in a grisly stabbing, has been arrested and charged with her murder.
“This was an unfortunate incident on the subway at Christmas time where lots of people lose their tempers," the woman's lawyer said in her defense.
Two girls, aged four and six, were found dead from carbon monoxide poisoning and the bodies of two teenage children were discovered with gunshot wounds. The mother of the children was found stabbed and shot. She is currently recovering at a local hospital in critical condition.
At a hearing on Monday in a Jackson County courtroom, Deputy Leo Allen of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department explained in explicit detail what occurred when authorities responded to the scene at a Best Western hotel near the Gulf Coast.
Police observed cuts to Gardner's neck and wrists. WREG reports that Gardner called her husband, Martin Gardner, earlier in the day and admitted to killing their four children.
