Wednesday's vote is simply about whether the Senate will debate the recently introduced voting rights legislation. Republicans previously filibustered similar attempts to discuss the For the People Act.

Stacey Abrams was awarded by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation for her transformative civic engagement work.

The majority opinion found the law violated the equal protection clause of the North Carolina constitution. The opinion also found that Republican lawmakers could not prove that the law would not have been enacted but for the discriminatory factor. Other findings include the measures taken were not sufficiently tailored to address virtually non-existent voter fraud.

Texas' new restrictive voting law is a perfect example of how, for several decades, the GOP has depended on racism to keep white people in power and nonwhites on the outside.
