NEW YORK – Marie Lauradin plead guilty to first-degree assault charges for lighting her 6-year-old daughter on fire in a voodoo ritual to get rid of evil spirits. The New York Daily News reports:

Lauradin, 30, admitted pouring rum over daughter Frantzcia Santil’s head during the June 2009 incident in the basement of her Queens Village home.

She told cops the voodoo ritual was supposed to rid her daughter of the evil spirits that had invaded her body.
