As more details begin to emerge in the Florida shooting death of Trayvon Martin, 17, at the hands of self-appointed neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman, the case continues to forge ahead as a nation is gearing up for what is expected to be an explosive trial. The latest findings from Sanford reveal that Zimmerman gave police an account of Trayvon’s final words before perishing from gunshot wounds, reports The Daily Beast.

Reporter Aram Roston was on the ground in Sanford and obtained some more background on Zimmerman’s law enforcement ambitions and the like. The bombshell, however, was dropped via a source close to the investigation, stating that Zimmerman reportedly said that Martin’s last words to the 28-year-old Zimmerman were, “OK, you got it.”

Further in the report, neighbors of Zimmerman’s parents defended the watchman and hoped for a quieter time in the quiet lakeside suburb. “I hope and pray everything quiets down and we let the system do justice,” said neighbor Patricia Howard. An unidentified neighbor added, “George is a good friend of ours, and what they say about it being about Black versus White is not what it’s about.”
The Beast source said that he believes Zimmerman’s account of the events, and it was confirmed by three different law enforcement agencies that the recounting of that fateful February night all matched. Naturally, the attorney for Trayvon Martin’s family, Benjamin Crump, does not believe in Zimmerman’s account at all. Crump did seem to concede to the idea that a struggle may have ensued, but maintained that Zimmerman was pursuing Martin and thus escalated the event.
For now, Zimmerman awaits trial at the John E. Polk Correctional Facility in Seminole County. Meanwhile, the Martin family continues their crusade for justice.
