Latina Edwards, the girl’s mother, says the incident began when she says a neighbor began shouting profane insults at her daughter and her friends.

“I told him don’t talk to my daughter no more because he was calling her and her friend ‘hos’. My daughter is 3 years old. She don’t know what a ho is”, Edwards said as she stood outside of a local hospital where her daughter is recovering.

Tensions worsen and Edwards decided to seek cover in a friend’s van, but the man retrieved a gun and shot into it. One of the bullets hit 3-year-old Parham.

“I’m her only protection”, said Edwards. “I tried to get away but he shot up the vehicle that we was in and that’s how she got shot”.

The girl is expected to recover from her injuries. But Edwards does not plan to return to the neighborhood where the shooting took place.

The Detroit Police Department is still looking for the shooter. Please call the Criminal Investigations Unit of the Detroit Police Department at (313)596-1340 if you have any information on the case.
