Zimbabwe lion attackSharai Mawera, a woman who crept away to the Zimbabwean bush to have sex, was killed when she and her companion were attacked by a lion, reports the NYDaily News.

According to an unnamed source, the man fled when the lion came up behind the couple and roared. Wearing nothing but a condom, he ran to the edge of the bush and looked back to see the lion attacking Mawera. Passerby allegedly ignored the man’s cries for help because they thought he was mentally ill.

Wildlife officials eventually arrived on the scene and “fired a single shot,” but it was too little, too late.

“Unfortunately the woman, who was also known as Mai Desire, was mauled to death by the lion but her boyfriend managed to escape naked and he was only wearing a condom,” a source told My Zimbabwe. “The two were having their quality time near Mahombekombec Primary School.”

Local newspapers report that 7 lions have killed 3 people in the last week in the popular tourist area of Kariba, known for safari trips and lake recreation. The arm and remnants of a second corpse mauled by lions were also found.

According to the Associated Press, the National Parks and Wildlife Authority were handing out fliers and warning people on a loud-speaker to stay away from concealed areas where lions hide themselves and stick to well-established roads.
