Rancher Cliven Bundy poses at his home in Bunkerville, Nevada

The Root’s Jack White and Kevin Martin from Project 21 joined “NewsOne Now” to discuss the backlash over Cliven Bundy’s comments.

Don’t know who Bundy is? Well, just last week, Cliven Bundy was being celebrated by the conservative set for his highly-publicized land dispute with the federal government. Folks like media personality Sean Hannity championed Bundy’s stance against out-of-control Big Government. It seems, however, Hannity didn’t do his homework on his new hero. In an interview with The New York Times, Bundy was revealed to be controversial in more than just his views toward government.

“They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton,” Bundy said to reporters, according to The New York Times. “And I’ve often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didn’t get no more freedom. They got less freedom.”

Perhaps needless to say, the “NewsOne Now” panel had a field day with Bundy and the high-profile conservatives that jumped to support the rancher despite his already questionable comments and decisions. Listen to what Martin and the panel had to say below.

Be sure to listen to “NewsOne Now” with Roland Martin, weekdays at 7 a.m. EST and watch at 9 a.m. EST on TV One.
