wangeliqueAn unnamed substitute teacher is being accused of taping the mouths shut of five of her young students at Winfield Scott Elementary School in Elizabeth, New Jersey.  Now the parents of the children involved in the bizarre method of punishment want the woman fired, according to NBC News 4.

The teacher allegedly took hot pink decorative tape, similar to the width of duct tape, and placed a piece of it across the mouths of five students who had been talking during a quiet game after lunch. According to one of the youths, Angelique Correa Henderson (pictured), when the tape was allegedly placed over her mouth, it nearly covered her nostrils, hampering her ability to breathe, “My heart kept on beating fast.”

Angelique’s dad, Munford, is livid that his child was subjected to such an act of barbarism, telling the news outlet, “I don’t understand what she was thinking,” he said. “We’re talking about kids. You’re sworn to protect and teach, not to hurt them and put them in fear.”

Other parents whose children attend the elementary school and who got wind of the incident like Marie Yacinthe told NBC News 4, “You don’t do that to anybody, especially kids. You don’t do that.”

Police and state education officials were summoned to investigate the matter.

Meanwhile, parents like Munford want the accused educator to never have contact with students again, “She does not need to be teaching and being around kids if she can’t control her emotions and the way she presents herself around kids.”

Reportedly, the teacher in question, who has no previous disciplinary actions against her, has been taken off the list of substitutes who are used at the elementary school.
