P Diddy recently told Vibe magazine that Nighline HOst, Martin Bashir’s question about him giving his son a Maybach for his birthday was racist.

“There were times in the interview when I had to give him an ultimatum,” Diddy told Vibe. “The questions weren’t being handled the right way. In hindsight, when I saw him I shouldn’t had done the interview because I know the style of interview that he does . . . The whole thing about giving a Maybach to my son, that’s really like a racist question.”

“You don’t ask White people what they buy their kids,” he continued. “And they buy ‘em Porsches and convertible Bentleys and it ain’t no question. It’s really a racist question and put things back in perspective with money and the way that people still look at you. And I’m not saying that consciously he’s a racist. But he probably don’t even realize that he would not ask Steve Jobs that. He would be like Steve Jobs has that money and that’s the gift his kid is supposed to get.”

We’re in a Recession/Depression and Diddy forecasts to the world I’m rich and my son who can’t even drive this lavish vehicle around the city…has a new toy! na na boo boo…He claimed last year he was dressing down and wearing less flashy clothes out of respect for the recession. Diddy is a hypocrite. Other rich people don’t forecast all their purchases on TV unless the razzi catches them…I don’t believe the interviewer was racist. I think he was following-up on something that Diddy put on there himself.

@ArianMay405, I stay in Memphis, TN (where u can’t walk anywhere without watching your back). There’s racism here everywhere. But guess what? I’m too busy living my life to complain and b*tch about it.

Martin Bashir is a foreigner, I’m getting tired of international people coming to this country to get educated and acting like white people!!! Asians are good for that!! Acting like they know black culture and black peoples ways!!! A wannbe white person is what that punk is!!

As a first car, I would not buy my son a Maybach. Diddy made a scene when he gave it to him on an MTV show. The only other recognizable parent I’ve seen on that show is Ceelo.

I think the problem is that some people are attention w***es and want people to feel one particular way about what they show the world. When people feel differently or have their own opinion, they get angry. Martin Bashir is an a$$hole to everyone he interviews. Tommy Davis even snatched his microphone off and left the interview. Princess Diana was his first major ‘mind-f*ck.’

If you can’t take the heat, like Farrakhan did, stay out of the chair.

    Hey Diddy, I’m black.

Why the F**K did you buy your teenage son a $360,000 car AS HIS FIRST CAR??

Since I’m not being racist (I would ask Steve Jobs, Bill Gates or Richard Branson the exact same question if they got they teenage son a Maybach as their first car too) I expect an answer. I’m waiting….

@I_AM_BACK_4_MORE: “I swear, blacks are always quick to call someone racist. The only time I hear about racism is when some black person is complaining about somebody being racist.”

You must live an extremely sheltered life, then. Or, perhaps you don’t live in the USA. You sound as ignorant as that silly black, Republican strategist, Ron Christie. You need to sit down and educate yourself on our history here in the USA (and from more than one source), and then you might be able to recognize racism when it appears before your face. Someone does not need to call you the n-word, to be a racist. The most common racism is covert.

Any Black person who grants Martin Bashir an interview has himself or herself to blame. Seeing how he twisted questions to incriminate Michaael Jackson, he should be seen as one of those people out to get any successful black person.

When you have money like puffy you see things in different light.. I’m sure if most people on bp have his money they would buy their sons a maybach or even a Bugatti

What’s the big deal about him asking about the damn car? It’s not like he said he shouldn’t have the car. I swear, blacks are always quick to call someone racist. The only time I hear about racism is when some black person is complaining about somebody being racist.

I know he was suppose to buy his son a 1973 ford pinto, because he’s black or why ask him about his personal decisions regarding his offspring? It’s not a normal interview

This was not a racist question. It was a legit question. What 16 year old kid is responsible enough to deal with having a vehicle of this expense and performance level. When Diddy’s son wraps this thing around a tree what will he say then

Let me preface my comment by saying, I do respect Diddy’s business prowess – especially in the fashion arena. As far as his personal life, well, that’s his business.

A Maybach – at sixteen? Really? Are you kidding me? Personally, I don’t think any teenager should be given a gift of that magnitude. If he gets a Maybach when he’s sixteen, what does he have to strive for? Where does he go from here? You have to walk before you crawl.

However, believe me, Diddy did not pay Maybach’s list price for his son’s car. When Mercedes decided to manufacture an automobile that would be competitive with the Rolls Royce, the design and engineer team went to work thinking that they had a good shot at getting a fair share of the ULTRA LUXURY AUTOMILE market, but it has not worked out that way. Maybach sales are still sluggish.

My marketing savvy is telling me that the OEMs practically gave Diddy this car for the free publicity it would generate for them. This story has been on almost every news outlet and media platform, including the highly rated NightLine. Every time this story is told, the Maybach is displayed in its full luxurious glory. Maybach couldn’t have asked for better advertising or promotion. The publicity that they have received from this story cost them far less than it would have cost them to launch an advertising campaign that would have reached the same number of potential buyers. It’s smart marketing…

I don’t know if Maybach came to Diddy with the idea, or Diddy came to them, but I am confident that Diddy paid very little for this automobile – if anything at all. With the cache of Diddy’s name, the grandiose, lavish sweet (but manly) sixteen party, and the sheer ostensible audacity of conspicuous consumption, both Maybach and Diddy knew that this purchase would receive tons of publicity – and they were right. That’s why the rich keeps getting richer: people love to give them things for free because they know that they will ultimately get something back in return

Who cares what he buys his kids. That’s his money to spend the way he wants. I dont agree with a kid getting such an expensive car but, then again I know this girl I went to school with her parents gave her a Hummer for graduation. She was top of our class, class president and did all sorts of volunteer work and other stuff. I mean everybody’s not able to spend that much for a car. If my child deserved it and I could afford it then there’s nothing they could not get from me!!!

Martin Bashir is an opportunist!!! I truly despise this SUCKER !!!!
His interviews with Michael Jackson and the way in which he twisted things contributed to Jackson’s downfall. He made Jackson look like a monster.
