Obama Post

From the NY Times:

WASHINGTON — There was no big speech or fancy ceremony when President Obama observed the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday last month. Instead, for his first King holiday as president, Mr. Obama quietly installed a rare signed copy of the Emancipation Proclamation in the Oval Office and invited a small group of African-American elders and young people to come see it.

The private gathering — “an intimate discussion,” in the words of Dorothy Height, a 97-year-old grande dame of the civil rights movement — was typical of Mr. Obama, who has steered clear of putting race front and center in his administration. But that low-key approach is frustrating some black leaders and scholars, who are starting to challenge Mr. Obama’s language and policies.

On Capitol Hill, members of the Congressional Black Caucus are expressing irritation that Mr. Obama has failed to create programs tailored specifically to African-Americans, who are suffering disproportionately in the recession. In December, some of them threatened to oppose new financial rules for banks until the White House promised to address the needs of minority groups.

I guess it’s no coincidence that they could care less what black folk think unless it’s the issue is race or Obama’s job performance.

Notice how they never care what we think about solar panels, green jobs, the collapse of our currency, and global politics in general.

Just black history month and whether Obama is black enough.

Question his approach…What approach? Ahhh yes, his infamous ‘Dont ask, Dont tell’ approach…

It’s just more an indifferent approach actually. Also good point E. Things are so obvious these days about the stories being published in the media.

wait a minute.. didn’t the black caucus walk out as a boycott against President Obama.. and then received 6 billion in Dec. 2009?.. SURE they did..

    *******************************************

Call it the $6-billion boycott.- Dec. 2009

By boycotting a key House committee vote last week and threatening to abandon support for banking regulations, members of the Congressional Black Caucus got $4 billion added to a Wall Street regulation bill and $2 billion to a proposed House jobs bill in spending they sought for African American communities.

House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank (D-Mass.) this week inserted $3 billion to the legislation to provide low-interest loans to unemployed homeowners in danger of foreclosure. He added $1 billion for neighborhood revitalization programs.

The money would come out of the $700-billion financial bailout fund.

“For those of us who walked out, it was absolutely essential that we have parts of that legislation directed toward helping people who have been left out of all of these bailouts,” said Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II (D-Mo.), one of 10 black caucus members on the Financial Services Committee.

The proposed jobs bill targets $1 billion from infrastructure spending for public housing repairs. It also provides $1 billion for an affordable housing trust fund.

With 40 members in the House, the Congressional Black Caucus can be a potent force.

“Since last September, we have continuously voted for bailout and reform for the very institutions that created this devastation without properly protecting the African American community or small business,” Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Los Angeles) said on the day of the boycott. “That stops today.”

Among the caucus’ demands were greater assistance for minority-owned auto dealerships and banks that lend in African American communities and more government advertising in minority-owned media.

    @Eolufemi I agree.
This whole situation is so insane. No matter what he gets done it will never be enough because its impossible to undo all of the damage from Bush era with the republicans (who allowed it for 8 yrs) obsessively blocking whatever they can.
People expect him to be Jesus, Malcolm X and Dr. King with a magic wand all rolled into one on the black side, while being the ultimate economist, global green champion, Democratic great hope (even while they leave him hanging), and be the iconic First Black President dealing with global institutions melting down with the flick of his wrist.
People forget that during his inaugural speech he said “YES WE CAN”, not “YES I CAN”.
He said things would be difficult and there would be some hard times based on what was already in motion. But people have short attention spans.
How many of them who are whining and complaining have lifted a finger to do their part to help the situation?

It’s really messed up that we give more consistent support to thugs and rappers than our black President.

Once again, NewsOne has managed to make me laugh so hard, my sides hurt! How many ways does Obama have to say it?! He is not interested in creating programs tailored to assist poor, black Americans. In fact, I don’t think Obama gives a damn about poor people, at all. Obama has said it time after time, in interview after interview, the only American’s he’s willing to PRETEND to care about, are MIDDLE CLASS AMERICANS.

I actually feel sorry for all the black people who voted for Obama – thinking he was going to be “different“. If feel sorry for the people who thought that Obama’s half-black face, meant he gave a *duck* about the social and economic ills of Black Americans.

Since some of you people are too starstruck to smell the coffee that BURNED THE HOUSE DOWN, maybe the long unemployment lines, the up-tick in black crimes, and going to bed hungry will finally open some of your eyes.

And don’t count on “green jobs” and “solar panels” to put black Americans back to work, either! The jobs created by these fields will hardly put a dent in the number of unemployed Americans. AND THE LION’S SHARE of those jobs will NOT be handed to blacks!

My advice: It’s been raining well beyond 40 days and 40 nights! Build your own boat. Neither Noah nor Obama, are coming to save you!!!!!!!

    Malcolm X here,
I would say it does appear Obama is so concerned he doesn’t alienate/offend white American voters 2-a point where, he comes across as though he’s not too concerned about alienating/offending Black(Land) American voters. Why?
Becuz white America’s votes r-in the majority. Thus, Obama has no problem continuing 2-allow cigarettes 2-b legal. He further has no problem using proceeds from the sale of the white man’s drug 2-grow the economy. And even though Obama admits 2-having partaken of the Black(Land) man’s sacred herbs that helped build the Pyramids, Obama still goes along with racist white Americas desire that weed remain illegal, & anyone who buys, sells or uses weed b-deemed a criminal. Obama caters-2 the desires of his racist white devil backers, even though his non-racist white diamond backers voiced their inkling 2-decriminalize the sale of weed 2-grow the economy. This inclination of the white diamonds is based on the latest science, which certifies weed is not as addictive, nor does it kill as many brain cells or people as tobacco. Yet, inspite of the desires of the white diamonds & the majority of Black people, when querried, Obama didn’t hesitate 2-voice the view of his pro-cigarette / anti-weed backers. And even though the majority of Black & white Americans oppose gay marrage, Obama continues 2-try & ram down our throats wut most of us feel is an Obamanation. Obama’s defiance is inspite of the fact that, the majority of the people in California put aside doctinal differences, & made clear they r-liberal enough 2-put a Black man in the Whitehouse, but still modest or conservative like Martin Luther King & Malcolm X, 2-a point where, it’s nothing personal but we oppose gay marraige. But as u-all-c, Obama refuses 2-listen. Why? In my humble view, it’s becuz the votes of Black Americans r-in the minority. As a direct & proximate result thereof, it is these type of inconsistencies that has Black Americans concerned Obama has taken us 4-granted. It has nuthin 2-do with whether Obama is black-skinned enough as Eolufemi states in his blog. Nor is this naysaying against the first Black American President. Just like Kanye’ West’s brutal criticism of George Bush 4-the mishandling of hurricane Katrina, & just like Obama’s crticism of Kanye’ 4-taking the mike from the lovely Taylor Swift, my/-r constructive criticism of Obama 4-his cigarette drug use, his antiweed stance & his pro homo, bi, tri-sexualism is valid criticism. It’s the only way 2-aspire Obama 2-do better. We’ve already witnessed the hypocrisy of Jesse clammouring 2-the rappers down with dope, up with hope. Don’t commit adultery. Be faithful 2-your wives. Don’t have lust babies out of wedlock. Bury the n-word. Then Jesse turns right around and does the exact opposite of wut he professes. The result is Tiger Woods doing the exact samething as his spirtual advisor. Accordingly, the only way 2-aspire Obama 2-do better is 2-righteously confront him when he’s wrong. He’s wrong on these issues. If white Americans can push the most addictive dope on my people—i.e. death-sticks, cancer-sticks, dummy-sticks, fool-sticks or so called cigarettes, then equally weed should b-legal. Don’t all of u-agree? Wut’s Obama’s valid reasoning 4-opposing us? His speech on race was brilliant. But even he, along with Presidents Truman, Kennedy & Johnson have acknowledged that Ameri-Quaeda, a racist, terrorist, criminal enterprise is still alive & well. That’s why we still have a race problem. The election of Obama proves the hate has been cut in half. But the cartoon of him as a dead monkey, the white congressman’s disrespect when he called Obama a liar. He didn’t & wouldn’t do that 2-Ronald Regan or any other white President. Then the breech of security allowing a white couple to just waltz in the Whitehouse. These things prove we’re still in the process of forming a more perfect union. 2-keep us on the right path, i offer this valid criticism. Sum-1 please bring this 2-Obama’s attention

    TheBIgBlackNewsBlog,
Excuse me but I had to just re-post what you said period…

“It’s really messed up that we give more consistent support to thugs and rappers than our black President.”

1_Fine, I don’t blindly support someone based on the color of their skin, and neither should you. You say we are not being supportive of our black President. Okay. What has our black President done to support black people?

Let me add…The INTELLIGENT black people arent looking for handouts from the president, his acknowledgment of us would be a great start though…There is only ONE difference between Obama and Bush…Obama tip toes around direct questions and issues with articulate and grammatical ease…yeah, thats about it.

Obama is a politician, he dosent care about addressing race, he is quick to bash black fathers, but not address issues, like the one that happend last month when majority leader Reed saying he could win because he was light skinned and had no negro dilect(i bet alot of u guys already forgot that). He will not address race because it is political sucide. What does he realy know about race? Dont expect him to speak up for us, he was never one of us and for the ones that voted for him on that baisis needs a reality check.

I never thought nor have I ever heard any african americans across this nation say that they were looking for a hand out from President Obama.. the accusation is insidous and OFTEN stated by REDNECKS out of FEAR of african americans moving forward …. and to say so is a covert racist undertone as THE- BIG- BLACK-BLOG gives sentiment TOO..

Economic 101 is this..put money back in the people’s pocket..the people will go out and spend//companies profit..who can hire people which creates moe jobs..what happen is Bush-43 outsource jobs to over-seas and american jobs were lost..and people had no money to spend..the economy fails..folks lose their job, homes..etc..including this nation being involved in two wars.. and let me say this.. BUSH-43.. will go down in history as the most wealthy post era president ever..because of tax cuts for the RICH and his investments in military contracts and deals he made with big business corporate america.. are you geting the picture now?

Unlike president BUSH-43..who gave a TAX cut to the rich white males in business is obvisous ..so if anyone was looking for a hand out- it was the white male croonies and CORPORATE THUGS on wall street that were friends of Bush-43 for over eight years.. who got all the money they need and invested overseas.. so let’s not be stupid people and believe the ideal fed by bottom feeders who DON’T look like US..and buy into the ideal that black folks are looking for something special from President Obama because he is an african american..that was NEVER the ideal for the majority of african americans..

If you support Obama then you support what’s above. Many of us that critique Obama love Black/African people. But we hate this system that oppressed/oppresses Our People and others. Obama works in the interests of this system not Ours nor any of the other oppressed People of the world,ie Palestinians, etc.

If you aren’t educated on any of these issues, I will be glad to share…

People want to debate but don’t want to deal with policies. You don’t support or not support a politician because of their race, or they have a nice jumpshot, or they speak well, or are good looking or how they make you feel emotionally. You judge them based on their policies and stance on issues. Stop being emotional and be critical thinkers.

He’s a black dude who was raised by whites, he doesn’t know how to get into depth about race! I’m sure there are many things that fly over his head, which Michelle Obama will have to address for him. It’s like teaching whites to see racism from a textbook. He’s NOT the one to speak on race, he has to play his puppet role as President, say nice things, and hope the time in office passes by faster. Him speaking on race will ignite the inner racist in many whites, even if they claim they have nothing against blacks. Remember, he won because he came out looking the OPPOSITE of Jesse Jackson, which was to not be pushing any black agendas and militance. He is the non-threatening, assimilated negro, so while in office, don’t expect anything. However, I expect to hear a lot when he is out of office and has no sway over anything anymore- in the form of a tell-all book. Don’t worry, one day we’ll get Corey Booker to run, then your wishes will be answered.

how about some of you run for president and then YOU can fix all of black folks problems…or, how about you run for city council and start fixing the problems of black folks in your neighborhood…or, better even, how bout you stop blogging about what SOMEONE ELSE isn’t doing and how all of these articles are so beneath your intelligence, and instead start submitting articles highlighting who and how you’ve helped in your community…a consistent highlight of “negroid” expression: THAT man should be doing more for MY problem…it’s funny, i’m a christian who believes fully and forever in my God, but even I don’t expect God to do everything; i have to do my part as well…these same “intelligent” people that are ready to bash the man and tear him down are doing what again for their own people? i’ll be happy to wait for an answer to that…

Iadmitit, the reason why so many blacks are upset is because they believed they were taking action on their behalf when thy voted for obama. The believed that a black man who had been a community organizer was in their corner. They feel betrayed. Voting is not sitting back and doing nothing, it is a form of collective action, so people who voted for him, thinking that he was going to help black people, they have every right to complain. He holds the most powerful position in the world, but instead of telling other people to bend over, instead he bends over for everyone except his own people.
