Most of the people in these areas don’t even own the houses they are living in, they are renting. You can’t just bury a body in the backyard when you don’t even own the damn house. Be for real. It has nothing to do with keeping up with white folks. The cheapest way to say goodbye to your family member is to cremate them and some folks can’t even afford that. Way to show niggas how to get arrested.

To a certain extent, Maatra is correct. We did start wanting to be buried in the same cemeteries and manner in which white folks did, but I also agree, you can’t just go to your local park and drop a body. Or in a back yard, because among other things, if construction or anything ever has to be done in the future in that spot, that’s a whole new issue. I think this is crazy and think its necessary for everyone to make provisions for what they want done with their remains, and not put that burden on someone else…I’m sure people can save $700 in their lifetime to provide for this.

I think it’s a DAMNED SHAME that money is even a requirement to bury someone to begin with. If/When we every get rid of the current Monetary System, and get started towards a Resource-Based System, everything will be much better. http://thevenusproject.com ;-)

Anywho, our family has discussed what each wants and vowed to start either purchasing a burial plot now if u choose to be buried, or like another poster said, come up with the $ for a cremation. It’s a huge financial sacrifice for alot of families, especially black, to pay THOUSANDS of dollars to lay someone to rest. And let’s face it, ALOT of us do not have life insurance. Actually when you think of all the money we spend on trivial material things, rims, jewelry, etc some of us could come up with that money in NO TIME at all. Just something to think about….

i feel for the family above but this situation is nothing new to me or to detroit.i’ve lost alot of friends these past few years and if it wasn’t for church families and the community some people will still be in the freezer today! i just hope my city get better so my detroit fam don’t have to live like this anymore!

Just get a funeral home, to agree to, cremate all the remains, at a discount. There are 67 bodies. So maybe at $200 dollars a piece. That would be about $13,400 dollars. But only after contacting the next of kin, for their permission. In order to avoid a frivolous lawsuit.

FAMILY GRAVEYARDS THRIVE IN THE SOUTH, MY GRANDFATEHRS 198 ACRES OF LAND WAS BOUTH, BUT THEY LEFT THE FAMILY CEMETARY INTACT. THE CITY IS STRAPPED FOR CASH, BUT TO ELEVIATE THE PROBLEM THEY NEED TO GO AHEAD AND BURY THEM IN THE CITY GRAVEYARD OR ASK THE FAMILY PERMISSION TO CREMATE THEIR LOVED ONES AND TAKE THE MONEY AS A LOSS. HOLDING ONTO THE CORPSES IS KINDA CREEPY TO ME…

I have become more aware of the situation that poor black people do not have the money to have a burial for their love ones. The worst part is the fact that funerual directors take advantage of us at this time. I did not know that you can have a home funeral, you don’t have to have the body emblemed, and you don’t have to buy an expensive casket. Cremation is the cheap way to go. You can also take the body to a crematorium and obtain a death certificate signed by a physician and file with the county. Total cost about $500.

this story bring me to tears.. this such a reality check for alot of people that think that we have time and don’t worry about life insurance until its to late..i understand its hard the way society is these day but we must put something up 4 a rainy day because 2morrow is not promise and its such a burden on our love ones..i’m sure the city could help but we know its about that paper and if you dont have it we are just F*** so plz people try to get a life insurance it is some reasonable ones out here (maybe the church has a society program)..my point is this story can one day be about us or someone we love…. god touch us with your annoitment and give these people a final resting place so there love ones can esae their pain…amen
