Homecoming Gang Rape

From the San Francisco Chronicle:

The Richmond High School girl who was gang raped after leaving a homecoming dance delivered a message Tuesday evening to hundreds of people shaken by the attack and hoping to bring about a positive change in its ugly wake – “violence is always the wrong choice.”

“We realize people are angry about this,” the 15-year-old sophomore said in a statement read by her church pastor at a rally at the high school. “But let the anger cause change, change that is necessary to keep our children, our neighbors and our friends safe.”

The pastor, Jim Wheeler of the First Presbyterian Church of Richmond, praised the assembled 500 students, parents and area residents for their “heart and emotion” in support of the girl. He said he believes she is recovering well, “but she will have a long way to go.”

Trauma bringing out wisdom or coached words?

Perhaps the poor baby thinks that she is to blame after she was supposed to be going to meet her father to make her curfew and she was plied with liquor before this incident occurred. Clearly she was not at fault trying to make her curfew but as many of us at her age fell into temptation of drinking alcohol and suffered severe consequences. Pray for her that she was not coached and will have a speedy recovery both mentally and physically. With the church behind her she should do well “And we know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love him” so even bad plans can have a good outcome. If we take her example and let God take care of what happens to those guys who virtually ruined their whole lives particularly the non student who appeared to have instigated the whole thing according to the many articles that I read. And may have thought that they would be able to get out of it like the ones in New York did because they had it on tape showing that the female was a willing participant. “Idle hands are The Devil’s workshop ( or playground)”

Exactly , this should be viewed as a wake up call for future events.I hate to say this , but parents need to use this as an example for their teens and educate and know who their kids are involved with.Parents need to be at the school , waiting.

The school next time should make the security stay until every child has left the building patrolling inside and outside, their’s no reason why hired security should leave early and half do their job of providing protection.

it’s sad that we always downplay the intelligence of young people. Most of us that grew up with nothing are more wiser than most folks. However, we are our own enemy. We give negative criticism when it is not needed. At the same time, we fight for Hollywood created individuals over superficial issues. Our values are twisted. Therefore, produces insanity. Furthermore, Richmond is a small city(town) that’s been stuck in a dead end for a long time especially for kids that grew up there. Local government, local police and state government doesnt care for places like the Rich. It has more violent crime per capita than any place in the country. I’m from the Town(Oakland)a few minutes away from the Rich, and the Rich makes our city look like a 4 season hotel with all the amenities.

We can continue to blame the parents for such tragic incident. However, in our community parents are very rare especially when statistics supports this claim. Remember 75% of our kids comes from single mother homes, and our women are 70% single. Our men hasnt let go of child’s play, which constitute for these men to be consider as young men or boys. Technology took away parenting time and family time. Our community is standing on hind legs of individualism rather then communality especially at the present time. The parents of our kids are all mechanical i.e. computers, cellphones, televisions, etc. Therefore, the media’s influence are certainly taking its toll to our young mind’s curiosity. Furthermore, it is OUR(from president, rappers, CEO’s,RN,unemployed, pimps, hustlers, young, old, rich and poor) responsibility to be accountable with our actions and our responsibility to police each other. We need to stop being dependent to white people, economically, politically, socially and spiritually. From there we can be self-reliant and will gain the true freedom and power.

My heart and prayers go out to the young lady and her family. Black men, I blame you for these animalistic type crimes. Go back to your families and teach your children. Stop leaving it all up to the woman to do. We can’t see that mothers are doing all they can? They need our help raising these children to be law abiding respectful productive citizens. Where were the fathers?

Im confused….why our young men getting the blame for this when from what i saw, hispanics were the culprits….somebody send me a note show me that our young men were truly involved…..all of us arent f*ckups…..

djfreezrock I agree with you ,

So far no evidence has pointed to any black man.Furthur more this is not a exclusive black men problem , it happens in other races caucasian , hispanic and any other race.I understand single parents can’t be everywhere at once , but thats no excuse for not educating and checking in on who your kids are involved with.

I get it she was being young and dumb , yeah we’ve all been their. But young teenage girls have got to realize going with the bad boys to drink in a secluded area isn’t the smartest idea.As I’ve said before it’s not entirely her fault , the school is to blame for the whole situation. But being young and dumb should not be an excuse , there’s plenty of young teen girls that would have walked away from drinking offer being the only female in the group.

Back to the school, Most of the blame can be put on them for not having lights and camera’s put up.Along with the fact that the school paid security left early , instead patrolling inside and outside the whole entire homecoming. To end this anyone can play sympathizer , but not many people want to acknowledege the many faults that come from the parent/parents(educating teens) , victim , school along with the creeps.
