March is Women’s Month so it is fitting that this news should alarm Black women everywhere. The latest news out of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is very troubling, to say the least.
A jaw-dropping 48 percent of black women between ages 14 and 49 have the virus which causes genital herpes, says the federal agency. Blacks in general are more than three times as likely as whites to have herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) (39.2 percent vs. 12.3 percent).

Why is it so much higher among black women? It is likely that biological factors make women more susceptible to genital herpes than men, says the CDC. American women in general are nearly twice as likely as men to be infected (21 percent vs. 11 percent). Then add on top of that socioeconomic factors that negatively affect blacks’ general state of health, and it’s no surprise that black women draw the short straw when it comes to getting genital herpes.

this pisses me off too,first they say we are most likely with aids now its herpes,what next? But we black women are a strong positive race we are chosen the first will be last and the last will be first!White women are nastier than blackwomen we dont sleep with family members and sisters white girls do lots of X-rated orges I am not predjudice,I just get tired of statistics always places all the diseases on us,I believe the government is responsible for africa having aids as bad as they do.I believe they injected those people with the virus so they could kill off that population of people and take africa,but its ok God has the last say so in the end and yaw statistics arent stopping us!to all the blackwomen keep yo heads up we are chosen we are beautiful and blessed!

Everytime there is a disease that attacks a community, the first thing they say is blacks are more susceptible to get it. Understandable, we need to protect ourselves from any communicable disease. But stop with this racism. All colors and nationalities get these diseases. Whether it’s Herpes, Aids, HIV, Syphyllis, and any other diseases, it doesn’t discriminate. If so muchof a percentage of blacks have these diseases, then how come whites are not affected. There are so many couples that are black and white together. Just talk about how to protect yourselves, and school every nationality. My goodness, quit stereotyping black women and men.

@ all the negative comments if you dont have it.. be happy! This is a informative article.. and yeah both men and women have disease but this is just something to remember before the next time you ” lay down”. I’m glad I’m clean, us men and women make dumb decisions sometimes… but hopefully that will change one day.
