The President was straight forward saying he didn’t have all the facts, but then laid out the facts that have been reported to date. A neighbor called the police after seeing Prof. Gates jimmy the lock into his own home (curious that the neighbor didn’t recognize him – but I’ll let that go for now). Once the police had arrived, heard the story and checked Prof. Gates identification they should have left while apologizing for the inconvenience on the way out. The President’s statement saying the police acted “stupidly” seemed and seems entirely appropriate to me. Those calling into question the President’s statement may want to look in the mirror when they dare open their mouth to speak of racism or racist behavior – of course FOXNews wouldn’t do it any other way then they do already.

Under most circ**stances I would rather not revisit any one particular issue. However, I am compelled to respond to Trinity_Starr’s remarks relative to the Patriot Act. Initially, I thank you for the complimentary acknowledgement of my post yet I believe that you like many others have been taken in (psychologically socialized and enslaved) by the media and right winged think tanks into believing that the Patriot Act saves you from what is termed the “War on Terror” and preventing radical extremists from fighting on our soil. That sounds like something out of the Carl Rove handbook that would be regurgitated by George W. You cannot fight a war against an ideology or something that cannot be seen. It was and still is nothing more than a fear/scare tactic, ingrained into your mind that is used for leverage and political influence to challenge and remove your freedoms afforded to you under the constitution. It gives the President during periods of war as Commander-in-Chief(which should have been labeled an invasion in the case of Iraq) explicit powers that supercede congressional oversight. The same scenario is currently prevalent in Afghanistan where soldiers are dying needlessly because there will never be a military resolution for what could be solved by diplomacy nor will they ever capture Osama Bin Laden. The Bin Laden’s have been in business with corporate entities in this country for decades. War means profits and trust that we are not there for the stability in that region and to rid the world of AlQueida and terrorism. If that were the case, we would be in many other places fighting wars. You must think more broadly and consider the other countries in the region….ie Pakistan and India and figure out how they impact the bottom line. Think about it…..We could pay for universal healthcare for every citizen without raising taxes and not just squabble over reform with the money being spent on this war. Be advised……the U.S. fights wars because of its interests that result in either resources or political influence. Casualties of war are not relevant unless it results in demonstrations due to malcontent. Read the act in its entirety and afterwards see if your civil liberties are not being stripped under the guise of protecting your rights. There is a war being fought right here on our soil….you just dont seem to know the implications or nature of it….Homelessness, Poverty, Economic Deprivation, Debt, Hunger, Unemployment, Mortality, the Lack of Health Care…..which is all by design and backed up by lobbyists to include requisite legislation of federal, state and local governments to protect the interests of the few….Shall I continue?
