I believe there are better,bigger ‘battles’ to be fought within the black community, as opposed to rallying against the bafoonery of Glenn Beck. I mean is the message of the speech the focal point OR is it the place in which it happened? This is the 47th annual commemoration of this historical timeplace and low and behold, are black people collectively in any better mental mindstate now? 47 years later and what…we managed to be able to integrate more effectively? Being furious over the antics of Beck gets us nowhere, commemorating this march gets us NOWHERE because it speaks directly to what is wrong with blacks today baby…INTEGRATING with whites for a better world…Miss me with all that…

I think every person that has commented on this article so far has had the right frame of mind except for TheMsmother. I agree that a person should hold on to the past as a learning experience but you cannot ignore all present and future events unfolding in the black community in the process of doing so. King was a good man for his actions in a much more openly racist country but he was never a leader in the sense that people use, and I say this because blacks do not need a leader, were not a herd of cattle. Dr. King illustrated what could happen when a black person stands up but he did not do it alone. He was not our leader, he was part of a movement that involved every single person who dared to be involved. It was not a one man show. These old school black leaders hold on to an event that happened decades ago when so much more had taken place in the black community. I respect the accomplishments of King and others but the speech on that day is not the only thing we done in 47 years. The black race in this country has become so much more intricate and dynamic without some single sherpard to herd us. We are all leaders in that we carry and express ourselves everyday. King lead by example not by phsically leading us. These old schools leaders want us to be upset with Beck, but they let him beat them to the reservation. He knows exactly what he is doing and those leaders are playing right into it. We need to show people like Beck that the example lives in our hearts not in Washington. If we show that this hurts us then next year the KKK will do it just to get us upset and the Tea party might do it the year after that. We need to stop holding on the past at the cost of the present. We have had alot of accomplishments in the last 47 years even if it does not look that way. More of us our home owners, business owners, educated, good mothers, good fathers then you or the media might think or want us to believe. Like I said were not cattle we do not need to be lead and we do not need to march in Washington to show black unity, we are already marching together more then people think.

Where is your sense of outrage?” We need to collaborate and bring together all people of good will, not just Black people, on Aug. 28 to send a message that Glenn Beck’s vision of America is not our vision of America.

You see this is what pisses me off about these type of things, but it does provide a bit more enlightenment to me about the grand scheme of things. Instead of these so-called Black Leaders taking the opportunity to organize something that would be more beneficial to the community, i.e. how to economically empower the black community, specifically the youth so they’re not always forced to sell drugs, bring accredited Black Psychologist(not the boogie kind but ones who possess knowledge of self as well as the degree) to the hood as well as brothers and sisters who’ve lived the street life but have survived matured and changed their ways, to teach the working class brothers and sisters on how they can talk to the youth and truly reclaim their neighborhood from the destruction and violence. Everyone complain about what good on in the hood, but are too scared to even talk to the so-called young thugs and tell them something positive and good and enlighten them on their great heritage.

King was cool, but to this day we don’t need acceptance and integration, with whites; WE NEED ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE BLACK COMMUNITY, AND MASS SPREAD KNOWLEDGE OF SELF(OF OUR ENTIRE HERITAGE AND OURSTORY SINCE THE BEGINNING OF TIME AND NOT HIStory) WE NEED TO RELEARN HOW TO BE SELF RELIANT AGAIN, AND HOW TO RETAIN THE RESOURCES TO BECOME SELF PRODUCERS AGAIN. THEN we wouldn’t have to seek acceptance and intergration because we’d already be back on equal footing with whites and all other races. And the Truth is WE WERE CREATED BY THE CREATOR FIRST AND IT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY AND DUTY TO LEAD ALL OTHERS IN THE PATH AND WAY OF LIFE THE CREATOR INTENDED FOR US ALL. The ignorance shown by Glenn Beck in his comparison of himself to MLK Jr. is only comparable to the extinction of the dodo bird, in which their stupidity was ultimately the catalyst for their undoing. At least that is what I hope for with him because honestly I can’t stand to sit here and think that this poor excuse for a political and social commentator would really have that much effect on riling up people.

I also like _A_’s comment because honestly, how can you be mad if he managed to book the day before you did? Now, if the pre-arranged booking was taken, then there might be reason for some kind of reaction, but honestly, this makes no difference as to the meaning of the speech or the movement.
