West outperformed 15 other finalist en route to her victory. She and other contestants were quizzed on issues ranging from the Colorado shootings to Penn State’s NCAA sanctions to plastic surgery. The finalists also competed in swimsuit and evening gown competitions.
West, who is the first Miss USA from the state of Connecticut, beat Miss Michigan, Miss Oklahoma, Miss West Virginia and Miss Ohio in the final round of the competition.
Her impeccable beauty is equally matched by her keen sense of mission and purpose. She told the Record-Journal that she was victim of bullying in school. But, instead of living in fear, she evoked the courage within herself to teach other students about the effects of bullying and how to stop it.

“I was bullied and I wasn’t educated enough to know what to do to stop it from happening,” West said in July of 2010. “I go to schools in Southington and tell the students five steps to stop bullying. I did a lot of research online and talked to people who have studied this. Some of things I found, I made sure that they would work for me.”
This fall, she plans on enrolling in school– one news site says it is Pace University while another says Fordham University— and majoring in dance. Her dream is to one day travel with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre.
According to her bio on the Miss Teen USA webpage, West’s favorite song is “One moment in time” by Whitney Houston because she feels “her finest day has yet to come.”
Indeed it hasn’t.
Let us celebrate the fine accomplishments of this beautiful, young sista. Congratulations Logan West, our new Miss Teen USA 2012!
