In light of the nearing grand jury decision, Missouri Governor Jay Nixon will be announcing the formation of a special Commission on Ferguson, according to a local St. Louis TV station. Nixon will announce the members at the Missouri History Museum this afternoon, ostensibly in the hopes that it will help to calm tensions in the wake of the grand jury decision in the Michael Brown case. The Governor says the commission will include “business, education, public safety leaders and everyday citizens” who will tackle the “issues” that came about in the last few months. Today’s announcement comes on the heels of the Governor declaring a state of emergency yesterday, activating the National Guard for the next 30 days. Read More
Chief of Staff to Bill de Blasio’s Wife Takes Leave of Absence
New York City Hall aide Rachel Noerdlinger has decided to take an unpaid leave of absence after her personal struggles were publicized in the media. For the past few months there have been reports released about her concerning ethics issues, a boyfriend who got in trouble with the law, and unpaid parking tickets. It’s clearly a pretty systematic effort to undermine certain work that’s being done, and we’re not going to be dissuaded by that one bit.” Read more.
