New details have emerged about the altercation that led to the arrest of The Wire actor, Wendell Pierce on Sunday.
According to The Daily Beast, who obtained the official police report, the woman who was allegedly attacked by Pierce says that the actor tried to enter her hotel room.
Pierce was arrested around 4 a.m. on Sunday at the midtown Atlanta Loews hotel and booked for simple battery after an altercation broke out on the 23rd floor of the hotel. He was later released on $1,000 bail. The report says that Pierce became upset when both parties “began a conversation about politics.” The woman, who has yet to be named, claims that she was sitting on the 23rd floor with a group of friends when she saw Pierce and his girlfriend exit the elevator.
The group began a conversation about politics when things quickly escalated. She said that Pierce began to push her and follow the group as they walked to her room. The alleged victim claims that Pierce tried to force his arm in the door, eventually hitting her in the head, grabbed her hoodie and ripped it off.
Other sources who reported to The Daily Beast gave a different story. They say that the woman stepped in the middle of an on-going altercation.
Pierce did tell the police that he followed the group to their hotel room, but was grabbed by the accuser and two friends who attempted to “pull him in as he was trying to get away.” Both Pierce and the accuser denied medical attention, but were photographed for injuries.
Pierce was slated to speak at a commencement ceremony on Wednesday for Rutgers University-Newark. On Monday, the university released a statement saying that the actor would not attend and that journalist Soledad O’Brien will give the address in his place.
