Travis Scott is getting slammed for agreeing to perform with Maroon 5 at the Super Bowl. Mary J. Blige, Lauryn Hill, Andre 3000, Usher and Rihanna all reportedly declined. Cardi B is being accused of only shutting down the gig because she wasn’t paid enough.
According to Page Six, the rapper was in negations but she was asking for a fee up to $1 million. Performers are paid for the Super Bowl but they do receive a “gift in kind.” Allegedly, she also wanted a solo spot in the show. A close source told the outlet, “Cardi B is standing tough and holding out. She doesn’t want to do it unless they roll out the red carpet for her.”
Cardi has been outspoken about the NFL’s treatment of Colin Kaepernick, but that could have been for the press. However, Cardi’s team responded to Page Six, saying, “The rumor circulating that she wants a million dollars and she wants her own set is false. There was never a firm offer to begin with for a performance. There [were] talks about it, but she was not particularly interested in participating because of how she feels about Colin Kaepernick and the whole movement.” The statement continued, “But again, there was never a solid offer for her to say yes or no to regarding the Super Bowl. She is already confirmed to do a set with Bruno Mars that weekend.”
Travis Scott has been enduring tons of backlash since he agree to perform. Civil rights leader Rev. Al Sharpton told TMZ, “I think that anyone who goes into the Halftime Show is in effect is directly violating those that want to raise the question that the NFL should come to terms with what they have done and continue to do to Colin Kaepernick and those that protest on criminal justice issues.”
