Newsweek Senior Editor Julia Reed, was on CNN’s Anderson Cooper show last night to discuss President Obama’s response to the BP oil spill. Here’s what she had to say.

“He said I know this is going to be — lead to some, quote, difficulty for the guys who work on those rigs.

Well, if he thinks that some guys on the rigs are the only people that are going to be affected by a six-month oil moratorium, he’s out of his cotton-picking mind.”

While the term “out of cotton picking mind” may be a common phrase, it takes on a different meaning with an African American President given the historical legacy of cotton and slavery.
