Music Executive Kevin Liles Accuses Rapper Lady Luck Of Attempted Extortion Over Sexual Assault Allegations

Baltimore-born music executive Kevin Liles is publicly accusing rapper Shanell Jones, known as Lady Luck, of threatening to sue him and publish what he calls a book of “false and horrendous accusations” unless he pays her $30 million. Liles, who is already facing a separate sexual assault lawsuit, released a statement on Tuesday addressing the claims.
Liles alleges that Jones, whom he signed to Def Jam Records in the late 1990s when she was under 18, is attempting to exploit recent headlines involving him for financial gain. Just months earlier, a former Def Jam employee filed a lawsuit accusing Liles of rape and sexual assault during his tenure as the label’s president in the early 2000s.
In his statement, Liles said Jones has threatened to go public with claims that he groomed her and tried to coerce her into performing oral sex. He strongly denies the allegations.
“It seems Ms. Jones hopes to leverage the current news environment to pressure me into writing an exorbitant check in order to avoid the negative publicity that will likely result from her false claims,” Liles wrote. “I intend to vigorously fight any complaint she may file and will take whatever legal action is necessary against her and the attorneys who have participated in this attempted shakedown.”
Liles called Jones’s allegations “totally false,” citing what he described as a longstanding personal and professional relationship with her over the past 26 years. He added that her claims are inconsistent with her previous public comments about him and her time at Def Jam.
A week after the lawsuit from the unnamed former employee was filed on February 26, Jones appeared on Sway’s Universe and performed a freestyle rap on the Overtime platform, hinting at a past involving abuse and exploitation in the music industry.
“Industry secrets, I keep. Why? These n***** is creeps,” she rapped. “I was 17 in high school… where pimps and pedophiles is just the n***** I’m signed to.”
Jones’s performance also referenced other high-profile figures facing allegations, including Sean “Diddy” Combs and Rick Ross.
While a representative for Jones has not responded to requests for comment, she continues to release music and operates two businesses: a wellness brand, LuckiPunch, and a custom crown company, LuckiCrowns.
Liles stated that he has empathy for Jones’s personal struggles, including past substance abuse and mental health issues, but emphasized that he refuses to be intimidated.
“She has vented frustration and anger towards many individuals (including her own family) for the fact that she has never achieved the level of success she desires,” he said. “Regardless of my empathy for Ms. Jones, I will not be extorted.”
Liles’s career spans decades, beginning at Def Jam, working alongside artists like Jay-Z, later co-founded 300 Entertainment, home to stars like Megan Thee Stallion, and currently serves as CEO of 300 Elektra Entertainment under Warner Music Group. He also helped lead the Preakness Live Festival in 2022.
The 57-year-old was raised in Baltimore and is a graduate of Woodlawn High School and Morgan State University.
