Despite several media reports, Bobby Brown and his children and family members did attend Whitney Houston‘s funeral, which was hosted at New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, N.J., Saturday afternoon. Brown and company, though, left before the service was over due to a seating dispute, reports CNN.

According to a statement Brown released about the incident, once he and his family settled in to the church, they were asked to move their seats several times. By the third time, Brown decided it was best to leave.
“My children and I were invited to the funeral of my ex-wife Whitney Houston. We were seated by security and then subsequently asked to move on three separate occasions.
“I fail to understand why security treated my family this way and continue to ask us and no one else to move. Security then prevented me from attempting to see my daughter Bobbi-Kristina. In light of the events, I gave a kiss to the casket of my ex-wife and departed as I refused to create a scene. My children are completely distraught over the events. This was a day to honor Whitney. I doubt Whitney would have wanted this to occur. I will continue to pay my respects to my ex-wife the best way I know how.”

Even though Brown and Houston were married for 14 years, almost as soon as it became public that Whitney had died, reports arose that Houston’s family did not want Brown to attend the funeral. While many have blamed Brown for Houston’s drug addiction and fellow celebrities, such as Jennifer Holliday, say that Houston abused drugs before she met Brown, Brown has consistently been upbraided for the mega-star’s downfall.
Whether Brown is guilty of introducing Houston to drugs or not, Brown is the father of their shared child, Bobbi Kristina, and should be afforded that respect. Disrespecting Brown and his family, if his allegations are true, will not bring Whitney back, and something tells me that Whitney, herself, wouldn’t approve of such behavior.
At press time, the Houston family has not responded to Brown’s accusations.
