PHILADELPHIA– Quasir Alexander, a 2-month-old boy has died of starvation and dehydration at a West Philadelphia homeless shelter stocked with food.

Police consider the Dec. 23 death of Quasir Alexander a homicide, but have made no arrests.

Lt. Raymond Evers says it’s not clear how long the baby had been living with his mother, a twin and other siblings at the Travelers Aid family shelter.

Police say medics called to the shelter took the boy to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Mayor Michael Nutter calls the death “a tragedy,” and vows to investigate.

Shelter director Ted Weerts says he can’t discuss the family because of their privacy rights.

The facility houses about 75 families in individual rooms, and strives to find stable housing for clients.
