DETROIT-Former Detroit Mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick is releasing an autobiography that details his problems with the law. Kilpatrick is currently under investigation for racketeering by the government for allegedly running a criminal conspiracy while mayor, and is in prison for lying under oath about his affair with his chief of staff, Christine Beatty. The book’s website states:

“In ‘Surrendered! The Rise, Fall and Revelation of Kwame Kilpatrick,’ Kilpatrick explores the many elements, both professional and personal, that contributed to the ‘perfect storm’ of controversy and conspiracy that culminated in his conviction for lying under oath about an affair with his longtime friend and chief of staff. He was unfaithful to his wife, but many men are and perhaps even more politicians are. Most are not in prison.

” ‘Surrendered! The Rise, Fall and Revelation of Kwame Kilpatrick’ provides insight into the many triumphs and disappointments of Kwame Kilpatrick. He made national headlines when he became mayor at the age of 31 and numerous others when his leadership brought new development to the city, including hosting the Super Bowl. City operations, development and safety had never experienced a better performance level than when Kilpatrick was mayor. However, his sense of compassion for people in need clashed with his most glaring fault, immaturity – professional and personal. His willingness to enforce checks and balances threatened the wrong peoples’ bottom lines and his single-minded devotion to his job threatened his family.
