chronic traumatic encephalopathy
Family members of former football player Phillip Adams want to know if injuries sustained during his NFL carrier could have led to a gruesome mass shooting earlier this month.
A Florida sheriff said Vincent Jackson's family thinks the 38-year-old former NFL star was suffering from a brain injury called chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) that statistics suggest is widespread among former football players.
Chronic traumatic encephalopathy was present in nearly all cases, from high school to professional players.
Dr. Myron Rolle—who put off an NFL career because he was a Rhodes Scholar—plans to become a physician with a specialty in neurosurgery at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital in June.
