Two months after a federal judge ruled Lindsey Halligan had been serving in her role illegally, she officially left her Justice Department role on Tuesday.

U.S. District Judge Cameron Currie ruled in November that Halligan can't legally serve in the role because she was not confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

The Justice Department attempted to reindict James on charges of bank fraud and making a false statement to a financial institution, but a grand jury in Virginia said no.

A federal judge ruled on Monday that Lindsey Halligan's appointment was illegal, and she "had no lawful authority to present the indictment."

Judge William E. Fitzpatrick said prosecutor Lindsey Halligan has made crucial mistakes in her case against James Comey.

Lindsey Halligan, the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, who is prosecuting Letitia James, shared texts with a reporter.
