TULSA, Okla. — This year marks the 90th anniversary of the Tulsa race riot of 1921, when a mob of white men killed hundreds of Blacks and left thousands homeless. The few survivors of that riot alive today are still fighting for recognition and compensation.

Not many people around the country are aware of the Tulsa race riot, and it is rarely included in school textbooks. The riot will, however, be taught for the first time in Tulsa public schools.

Nevertheless, advocates are fighting for some form of compensation and awareness for the small number of survivors, which stands at about 40.
