Location Last Seen: Edmonds disappeared after she left the house for the third time, between the hours of 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., that day.

Circumstances of Disappearance:  Edmonds’ son says that it was normal for his mother to occasionally leave the house to run errands. She was last seen driving her 1999 silver Oldsmobile Alero. The license plate number is XYR-2048. The case went cold for several months, but in September 2013, Edmonds’ car was found by a hunter in the woods of Chesterfield, Va.

Police received a tip that Edmonds, who suffers from dementia, used to baby sit at a house near where her car was found. According to police, she would walk with her charges around a nearby park and then circle back to the stream to let them play in the water. A trail of latex balloons was also found leading from the car.

Virginia State Police began a search of the area.

“Based on that, we use lost person behavior to kind of give us an indication of where that person might go and then based on that information, we set up a search area,” First Sgt. Mike Berry, Virginia State Police Search and Recovery, told WTVR.com. “And we’re concentrating in that search area hopefully to find her.”

A 12-mile radius was searched using data from a study on the wanderings of 600 dementia patients.

“We’ve been searching the river pretty heavily,” Lunenburg County Sheriff Arthur Townsend Jr. told WTVR in September.  “We had some points of interest in this side of the woods to search real good to see if we find anything in that area.”

Since then, the trail has gone cold.

“Any investigation where you don’t get the result you want is disappointing, but I’m certainly not disappointed in the effort,” said Townsend.

Last Seen Wearing: A members-only-style black jacket with black shoes

Identifying Marks or Characteristics: She has a surgery scar on her upper chest.

Police are still asking for the public’s help in locating Edmonds. Anyone with information may call the Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office at (434) 696-4452 or the Black and Missing Foundation’s confidential Tip Line.
