I am glad that he completed his degree but I don’t know about the “role model” term. I guess he could be to others who thinks it is too late. However, to have blown $60 million dollars and have 7 kids by 5 different women don’t meet my criteria for a role model.

It is good that no one has blasted him here because on other sites, they were letting Kenny have it. A degree on organizational leadership, seems like he would have taken up finance or something in business.

One comment I recall on the yahoo site, “was he looking for an NBA championship or a genetic diversity championship.” I know he is nowhere near Shawn Kemp with the kids. Athletes are NOT ROLE MODELS, they need them.

thats a good back up plan for a professional athlete because if they get injured they have something to fall back on.

I see no difference in him wising up and going back to school to get his life in order over a woman with 6 kids and 8 baby daddies wising up and going to get her education to support her family. They both have alot of children, they both are not from one parent and they both make stupid mistakes that they are working toward over coming.
No difference at all.

Not to say who cares, but my mother comes out of school this June 5th with a degree in communications. At the age 51 right before her 52nd. I got mine in marketing ain’t nobody praising me and I can ball. This is what the bruh is suppose to do, it is long over due. I’m not hating but I’m sure his family wanted this a long time ago. I’m proud of him cause we had respect for him since he played at G-Tech!!(Me and Lil Cuz)(or Lil Cuz and me).Lol!! But Let’s just keep real he reps just as many of us bruh’s whose finally reached his potential. But Homie I rapped with just got his second master. And moms is going for her’s next semester. I guess what I’m really trying to say is this is nothing compared, to our real know how. And we don’t need a President to tell us that. But it’s good to see that somebody gives a f**k!! I have to agree with KYs_Corona, everybody is overlookiing the fact he sqaundered millions, the whole reason you go to school is to make at least a million. what else is he goind to do? he should have done the school thing long ago and maybe after school he would have known how to protect the money and make it work so he wouldn’t had too. correct me if i’m wrong millions of people graduate from college everyday where are their pictures?where is their story? what about the man who had nothing and was upside down in debt and have three kids still went to college got his degree and now out of debt with a positive income stream? anyone who destroy a multi million dollar dream shouldn’t be applauded.

If anyone is seeing the true mass of this and it is a tragedy. First and Foremost, this Brother was ask and signed with Georgia Tech to play Basketball, when the NBA came calling instead of continuing and finishing up to get his Sheep skin, he let the coaches and everybody else persuade him to join the NBA. Yes he ruined millions of dollars, but was anyone on here in this forum or any of his agents advising him to invest, save or put the money to good use. No, we all (not a real BB fan, more of the Gladiator type I am), we watched him Ball while in the NBA, and we really did not wonder what he was doing with his money.
I can say that some of us said its his money, he can do whatever he wishes, then we would say, he blew millions. My goodness, he is damned if he does and damned if he does not.
But let us not forget one thing, he is not the only one in professional sports who had this to happen to them. yes, he probably has learned a lesson of value now that the money is gone 9well not completely gone), but the large sums are not there anymore.
It took me 20 years to reach my terminal degree but I did it, kids in tow, ball and chain (whom I love dearly in tow as well), she never complained and we are headed for higher heights all because of my decision to join the Fraternity that Kills and serve my Country.
Who are we to say that this man may one day devote what he has learned and utilize it to the Community.
From my point of view, you keep up the good work Brother, let your Son know that once you obtain this, it cannot not be taken away, they only take back the honorary stuff and if means nothing.
Knowledge is power and it is great. Sir, I salute you on your achievement.

I’m so glad that he returned to get his degree. You are never too old to set new goals or to dream new dreams. I went to college at the age of 37, got my diploma and returned for my associate degree. I feel great about it and I’m not finished yet.

I cannot feel bad for someone who blows 60 million. All I need is $100,000 to make it happen. Once I get my first mill, I would NEVER let it go!

I noticed other posters (from other boards) commenting on something that Karim Abdul Jabar said about age restrictions in the NBA and how it is critical to get a college education. That’s all fine and good, but have any of these NBA players themselves set up organizations that will help these young athletes manage their finances and other aspects of their lives? If not, I think it would be a great idea to start an organization that mentors these young men, puts them in touch with financial advisors and gives them a few 101s on life in general. It should even be a requirement.

E_turnal: You wrote that you are not concerned about Kenny Anderson’s money because it isn’t yours. Kenny Anderson’s money is money that basketball fans spent in tickets and merchandise, so while you personally may not have supported Mr. Anderson, there were many who had–hence, the $60M.
