From TheLoop21.com:

The Texas Board of Education has made a series of history revising moves to its curriculum, altering how the Civil Rights Movement is taught among a host of other things. These new changes include some very overt attempts to give white men credit for championing civil rights while ignoring the minorities who fought and died for those rights. These changes will be in place for the next decade.

Why you should care? Even if you and your kids live nowhere near the Lone Star State, Texas, as one of the biggest states in the union, has a huge amount of influence when it comes to shaping history books nationwide. Textbook manufacturers essentially shape their books around the needs and recommendations of their largest clients. In this case, there is no client larger than the state of Texas — other than California. New York is the third largest state in the union and therefore also has significant sway when it comes to influencing textbooks.

Most rational black people should understand that there will always be sick,
irrational white folk around us. They were around us, while our black ances-
tors were fighting for their freedoms on a daily basis, and they are still
around us even in this day. Yes, Barack Obama, was the first black man to
become president of the United States of America. No one really expected
every white person to embrace this piece of history. The real fact is this,
we, black people, helped to build the United States of America without a
doubt. Irrational white men had the power and authority to distort the
Negro’s image and overall being through early textbooks. Let’s realize that
this is a new day and new age. Apparently, it is going to take more for
some black folk to “unshackle” their mental being from a dark and painful
yesteryear. Imagine if every black individual’s mind was still “shackled”
from an “unjust” past. Hey, we’d all be in trouble, wouldn’t we? Part of
Dr. King’s dream was that his four children would be judged on the content
of their character, not by the color of their skin. Irrational white folk,
even of today, will copy the actions of their ancient forefathers to see
how we, as a black folk, react. Ain’t no way in the world a white man is
going to take the credit for the things that a black man or woman created.
You do not necessarily have to be a “racist” in order to right a wrong,
and that is “by any means necessary,” as Malcolm X said during his elaborate
speeches. Remember, black folks lives did not originally begin in “slav-
ery.” It was after the white European settlers discovered Africa and Asia.
It was people of the continent of Africa that was enslaved, but there is
more to this story as well.

..if black folks aren’t hipped to what is happening in america right now(WAKE UP)..especially those of you living the red states(GOP) controlled..just because we have a president who is black .. doesn’t change nothing..but only increase the efforts of the opposition..and they will win if we don’t do our part come this November and vote in MID-TERM elections..because you best believe the opposition is voting this November against the advancement of people of color.. the fear of a BLACK PLANET..

.. get in-tune and educate yourshelf to what is happening.. the political pundits those who represents the tea partiers and the GOP want what they say is their country BACK.. which means BACK to racist and unfair practices of segregation is their intent.. and they are doing so right under your noses.. even today North Carolina is going back to the segregation of their school bus system..which is saying that whites don’t want african americans and hispanics students bused to their school districts…and if you don’t vote this coming november..will increase segregation efforts in the (GOP)red states-where the GOP party will rule into law- black folks right back into forms of bladant institutional segregation..the segregation process/movement has already started nationwide..PAY ATTENTION and get proactive..your child’s future depends on it.

this is as wrong as wrong can be I was born during the civil rights movement. And as a kid growing up in the seventies my father was a Panther.I was one of those kids that did the free breakfast programs, the after school study groups and the self defense classes, and being escorted home from school so police and other whites would not harm us.There was so much good that they did it needs to be available for our kids to know.and there were whites who helped but we(my brothers and sisters) were constantly on the front line fighting for what we should already have and still do not have…equality! So for them to just erase all the blood sweat and tear that was shed is such a atrocity..

The Educational system doesn’t actually teach children “HOW TO THINK” it only teaches them “WHAT TO THINK.” Since we don’t own or run the School System we so-called Black People are literally at the mercy of White America. We can vote, rally, protest, cry and even pray, and nothing is going to change. You actually expect your ex-slave Masters to come up with a solution to your problems when: “REAL CHANGE STARTS WITH THE MAN IN THE MIRROR.” You exchanged your jobs and your homes for a half Black President. “ARE YOU HAPPY NOW?” Despite all of the chaos and curruption, I have a peace that surpasses all understanding. “GLORY HALLELUJAH” (Catch My Drift?) So sincere, Michael Sydney Perkins

I mean history should tell it’s own story..not the other way around. This is utterly ridiculous, again you can check your local office or governor’s office and make sure they don’t accept these books. If they do, make them pay at the ballot box

Last thought , we are no longer slaves to the white man physically but mentally our slaver never ended.

    Food for thought

This comes as no surprise to me , I can remember as a kid in colorado springs in elementary school looking in my text book and seeing one chapter outof maybe 20 about black heroes in america. It wasnt until I reached college and took a african american studies class where I learned the true history of our people and their ” pilgrimage” here. I ronically the class was taught by a white british teacher lol but my point is we can’t expect textsbooks that are written and sold by white people to accommodate us. You see how little these teachs books talk about latino americans and other minorities. Im a pre med major and I can literally count on one hand how many black scientist are dicussed in my science classes. If black people wrote the books and published the books and sold the books we then take back the power of education. If “they ” want to make this about race why should we sit back and allow it. For too long we have allowed “them ” to control ever facet of our lives , from education , to how and wat we eat, to the clothing we wear, to even the houses we live in. Black people need to stop b***hing and moaning about it and change it. Our history is just as important as theirs if not more important , most white people can trace their roots back to the elizabthean era aka shakesperean era , but the average black person can only say my ancestors were slaves so therefore our history as a people in america is still very young.

Also encourage your children to read outside of school, my mother was raised by two educators and therefore implimented in me a need to read outside of school. If we black parents stop letting the tv babysit our kids and instead make them read we will have then taken back the power of education something nobody can take from them. Encourage them to want more from life than just being a basketball player, tell them they can own they own baskeball team or their own stadium , stop limiting your childs dream there is a world beyond the stars , tell them to shoot for that. The ultimate success come through education and knowledge . Knowledge is worth more than are the silver and gold in the world.

“In slavery times, African-American slaves were not allowed to read books or any type of literature in order to limit their knowledge and only knew what their slave masters told them. The whites felt if the slaves had the knowledge they would have the power to overthrow their slave owners(hence knowledge is power) but, today they(whites) know we have access to books to read but by “whitewashing” our textbooks they are doing exactly what they(whites) did to African-american slaves over 200 years ago but in a different way.”

THE BROTHER THAT MADE THIS STATEMENT IS RIGHT ON!!! I moved to Texas almost 2 1/2 years ago and when I expressed my initial thoughts at the culture down here in “the Bible Belt”(what a crock!), many did not believe me. Texas is no place for blacks!! This state has more respect for the Mexican nationals that inhabit this screwed up state. Brothers in Texas might want to take a trip to other states and see for themselves the differences that are so obvious. It almost seems like the whites and Mexicans have some sort of “agreement” going on between them here. It amazed me to see how little blacks own in this state; it’s absolutely pathetic! No political power and very little financial influence!
