Nettleton middle school really should be ashamed of themselves. How ridiculous does that look and sound?? a black child can only be Vice president in the 8th grade, the white child can ONLY be a reporter in the 7th grade, and a Black can only be the Sec.Treas. in the 7th grade??? WHEN are our black people going to REALIZE that though there is a hierarchy for education in school districts, black parents need to become more “visual,” that is sitting in classrooms clocking (monitoring) teachers as well as the curriculum presented to their children? Educators have gainful and mostly consistent employment because the parents make it happen for them. “No students, no job.” Parents are at fault because for many decades now, too many black parents became complacent in that “I know where my kid is for least eight hours.” This was a negative mind-set, now at fruition. For it is a wise parent that is vigilant in keeping that third eye on the “psychological” dynamics involving the educating of their child(ren). The beast is still trained and deemed as superior whereas black folks (and many on an unconscious level) are trained to perceive the beast as superior.

It’s pretty simple. Until black parents do less yapping and more of a “I’m going to BE in your face” approach?” Don’t expect significant change. This problem has plagued many a black parent for years. The only change over the scores of years past is “different classroom, same treatment.” Excellence in academia should be the mantra and goal of every black parent. The bottom line IS that as black parents, you MUST be pro-active.

The solution to all of this, we need to build our own schools and have our own teachers that are qualified to teach our students.. I do believe school integration was a bad idea, an idea that asked too much from the white community. Black people made a colossal mistake entrusting their kids to white teachers that were encapable of giving nurturing support and love. The teachers didn’t have a stake in our education process. This may actually be an educator’s attempt to make sure that at least some of each class’ officers are black. Kids being kids, and democracy being one person per vote, if the school has a large majority of whites, this may be the only way to ensure that blacks are elected to at least some positions as officers in each class. Think of it as affirmative action. If you want to do away with the principle of ‘one man, one vote,’ you are going to have a hard row to hoe. Maybe educators should just stick to educating. @FSUgradstudent, I agree with what you stated. This is exactly what Malcolm X was trying to stress, that we should not have integration without unification first. While at the same time MLK was stressing integration without assimilation. (of course I agree with both, but I think people have lost the their point)That’s why you see so many black people now who have made it to the top abandoning those who are still struggling. This country is based on individualism and once a black person has that in their mind then nothing else matters but them and their needs. You SHOULD take care of you first but once you make it to the top don’t leave others behind. The writer of this post failed to mention that facts, in which I think the reader(s) should know. After reading this post I did further research, searches, because I know often times BlackPlanet can mislead. The thing is – the school is 70% White and these rules are rotated each year, that means only Blacks can run for President next year. This policy is actually beneficial to Blacks, if not Blacks wouldn’t probably win at all, any year, given the fact that the school is 70% white.

GangRelatedKillings is correct on the issue and that alternative years would flip the roles. It’s not uncommon to find biased reporting or misleading headlines in order to provoke some response. Regardless, the rule in effect is pro-integration, however it does not classify how those of “mixed-race” are supposed to be categorized.
Moving along though… this is nothing new and/or surprising as has been the custom of southern and even American history so am I shocked? Not in the least. Am I aware and trying to prepare for the upcoming fight and revolution?…. That’s for damn sure.

I did some research as well, and some parents are very disappointed in this school, after reading the reviews. I went to the schools’ web page. They gave the Principal only three stars, the teachers received 3 stars as well and parent involvement received four stars. Sounds a little backwards to me. One Mom said this school was a joke and how they teach students with dyslexia. Some have transferred their children out of that district. Shame on them.

It is a mistake to determine the offices by race. The school may have good intentions in they years when only a black can run for president but they are teaching the wrong message. They are also opeating under the false assumption that a majority of white students will not vote in a black president at the school.

They need to stop trying to be so “affirmative action” and let students vote for whom they choose- even if it means no blacks in the student government.

And the parents both white and black of this school district should take their district back and put people in that will teach their children better than this. What is this? It’s the first I’ve heard of it. But for someone or a schools system in this day should not have this. It should be open to all besides color or background. Where is the full reporting and story of this? Who is the head of this school system? Is someone stuck in the past here or can’t move on from the 1950′s. I was born in 1962 and have a faint memory of the past down south when we visited my moms family in the country. I agree, but Black Planet isn’t the only one making the error, the original ABC News story made it sound like Blacks were prevented from being class president, which is FAR from being accurate. I suggest we boycott ABC News. If all 3 of us do that, they will be down to less than a half dozen news watchers! LOL

I think the Mom is concerned about her DAUGHTER having the opportunity to be a school reporter, not the COLOR of her skin.

Her daughter is mixed race, not white.

They should just ban this bs policy all together and let the kids decide whom they want to have as class president as we know children are less likely to be racist unless taught by their parents. And they should do it for two years straight and what happens or just ban the election process period no body need to deal with this type of bs especially children.

When I first read the story I was “oh no”. Then when I read gangrelated and texex fullstory I understand and I can apprehicate it—these people need to held accountable for printing half truths and misleading stories of race. If this country needs to make extra money to pay off the deficit start charging these people for printing mistruths. This is like screaming fire in a crowded room–that is against the law….right people.

Black people, learn by Willie Lynch. Read all about it. You’ll act like this is something new. I have a friend that was born down south in the 50′s and he told me that the Black people down South were and are better educated and I agree with him on that. And that’s because they have and had Black teacher’s so you know your going to learn. But up North they didn’t have Black teacher’s in the school system so you know what happened the Blacks up north scored low because the white teacher’s didn’t care if they learned or not so they pass the Black student’s through just so that they can get rid of them. They didn’t care if you learned or not. And don’t get me wrong just by Black people being smart anyway and have common sense that helped them through and that’s why the white man came up with this thing if you didn’t go to collage or have a degree you couldn’t get a job. So they use this paper trail to stop Black people from getting a job because we are just talented people. A Black man could master something w/out a book and white people knew this so like I said they make it so that you have to go to collage and also they know that most of Blacks can’t afford collage. But you know you play their game and do the best you can to survive in their white little world. Which they think they own actuallly they stole it from the Indians and Mexicans and now they have boarder patrol so these people can’t get into the United States. They have stole from everyone and took their land. And get mad at each other and not at the right ones that have hung Blacks, killed Black babies, stole peoples land and property. They have done so much to everybody and that’s why we need to stick together as Blacks. And they still got stuff going on about the President (What a Shame). They don’t want to go back to which they came from and that’s nothing. They are the ones who had nothing and that’s why they try to devide us apart by any means necessary.

In the white man’s eye if your half white and half black your black. If your mixed why when filling out an aplication you will put other you will never put white. And that’s because they want the pure race as they call it and they have these other rediculous names for you if you have any black and white in you. So what’s up with that? So the kids are going to be confused anyway being mixed with white because they most likely won’t embrace their white side and that’s because the white really won’t except them totally. They will always see the child as black if their mixed with white. We got some problems here on this earth and guess who started it they always need a nanny.

Her daughter being mixed simply means she is a lighter nigga. Those 1 drop rules still apply as our president is living proof of that. I’m glad that GangRelatedKillings researched further as I wasn’t gonna bother with this story as I would’nt shocked to find out they was still trying to hang us in Mississippi

This is about the stupidest thing I ever heard of. That said, the article leaves out a pretty key piece of perspective, the fact that last year a black child had to be President and next year a black child would have to be President. We don’t need to inflame to stop this, the story as a whole is a travesty. When we distort the problem to make it *seem* worse than it is, we leave an opportunity for someone to say “oh, it’s not *as* bad as we thought” which quickly through the game of telephone we call life becomes a non issue that is ignored.

This needs to stop and it sounds like they have addressed it, so the story now should be an example of a success and encouragement that change is happening.

We get a Black U.S President and racism just sky-rockets huh? Maybe white people should just leave the country.

It’s a shame that we had to resort to the “every other year rule” in the first place!

While I agree this is ridiculous and embarrassing, I would like to point out that not everyone in Mississippi is a Bible beating, redneck, racist/prejudice conservative. I realize that parts of rural Mississippi, primarily in the Northern part (Nettleton is in the delta), are a bit backwards, but don’t spew the lies that it’s just Mississippi that is like this. I’m very familiar with the race “wars” that go on in the Northern part of the U.S., and I’m also familiar with the high number of KKK members in states suchs as Ohio, Indiana, and Iowa, so learn your facts before you pick on an entire state. Some of us are open minded individuals down here and one thing I hate is stereotyping a whole state over the stupidity of a handful of individuals. They do not represent us. Thank you. Peace out.

But that is all I will give you after reading the whole story why would you post this as some news other then to keep unrest what ever happen to writting a story because of facts and not just a snipet just about as bad of a job Fox does if I were a media outlet I would not like to be placed in way shape of form in the same paragraph of Fox you guys just did that. This was reported by a white woman after her daughter came home from school with the form about being a reporter and was told she cant and it was a Blacks only office this year get the story before you try to make News or try to start a riot.
