Racism among blacks???? This article shows that racism isn’t even clearly defined or properly understood. It’s IMPOSSIBLE for a member of a race to be racist against someone else in the same race. Racism is the act of…..oh forget it, this has been explained so much here, I’m just wasting my breath!

In regards to desparte treatment at venues, I attended the Congressional Black Caucus Convention in Washington D.C. in 2008. Despite the money spent to host the event in the 4 star hotel, they served us left overs from the night before for breakfast. I had to laugh at the audacity.

Yes there is still racism in america. But in Mr Omar case it was reported that he had money problems and he was about to loss his home. There also a report that he was stealing beer from the company and they also reported that they had called him in the office at his job and showed him a tape of him stealing. I think people don’t wanna face the truth………..Everything is swept under a rug, or somehow covered up, so the blame is put on the one that is complaining about racism. The shootings itself may not be racist but I am sure the job was horrible everyday. I worked at a place in Florida where I was one of two black who worked for the city and one of a couple hundred blacks in the whole county. My experiences there were sickening. Everytime you see these blogs that stem off of BP you get these people on here who believe racism is gone or blacks are responsible and deserve the racism they recieve. I am not sure if these people are black, white or what but I do think they are sick. What this guy did was wrong. You don’t handle problems like this but I will say this we can’t go further in this country with the things the way they are. Something is going to start one day that no one will be able to start and that will be because we as a country can not realize we have a race problem.

There are some people who hate themselves, but that is not a whole cross section of black people. I grew up around alot of black people who did and are doing great things. The way things are it could get ugly but when you have people like you who make it seem as though black people are always looking to blame someone else for whatever short commings they may have and in fact we as a race are productive members of society then you have things backwards. I was born during the Civil Rights era, and not much has changed after thirty years! I always thought, by the year 2010, we would be living like “Futurama”. (but, instead, we still tearing america’s draem apart, with these petty ethnic “blood fueds” known as rasism.) After i read what this guy was going through on the job, I thought, yup! that’s how they do it. It’s a textbook example of what blacks deal with in the workplace more often than not.
Hire into one pay grade but working in another, snipes from co-workers, being set up for failure, then let go. A white friend told me that he kept a labor attorney on retainer to deal with employers, an old black man told me, he’d wait for his trouble makers in the parking lot, get in their face one on one and ensure them if he got fired due to their antics, they’d leave the office on a strecher or a black bag. Both men are still employed.

Are you kidding me! Of course racism is a live and well in 2010 people just find new and inventive ways to keep it going.

In the past, I had supported your commentary. You presented enlightening news on the pulse of America. But, in the Omar Thornton case, you were a little out of touch.

Omar Thornton was a sc**bag who decided to retaliate his ill treatment by killing innocent people. He didn’t destroy his persecuters. But, he destroyed eight families and left his to deal with a grim aftermath of perhaps relocating for their own safety.

I suffered racism a lot as a child and as an adult. I had my restaurant career ruined by an overzealous, stupid-ass sergeant who wanted to pin a drug charge on me. When he failed, he put a disorderly conduct against an officer charge. That arrest eradicated terrific opportunities in Corporate America. He never apologized, even today.

I had violent thoughts about dealing with him. I saw him w/out his uniform in public. I dreamed of ways to even the score. But, I never took those actions because why stoop to his pathetic level.

Thornton was a union driver. He could’ve sought another driving position elsewhere. He allegedly received death threats. Where were the contacts to his job’s corporate offices? Why didn’t he take his complaints to the press? I took my issues to the internet. That cop was put on blast. I told my story and made him look like a fool. I used the power of the pen. I didn’t give in to America’s image of us being primal, uncontrollable and animalistic. Thornton was weak. And, he made innocent co-workers pay for others’ sins.

Thornton’s employers were as guilty of pulling the trigger as he was. But, they survived to tell their lies while a black man was dead. Eight people died and no amount of crying “racism” excused that murderous parasite of his actions.

He should’ve resisted the temptation to react violently. He should’ve hired an attorney. He wasn’t strapped for cash to look into legal aid or something. He made enough coin to buy three firearms and bring them to his “resignation” ceremony. He should’ve pawned the guns and hired a lawyer to sue that s**thole of a company!

Racial violence never stopped racism. America had the Reconstruction white on black massacres. America had the “Red Summer” riots of the early 1900s. America had the attacks in Tulsa (Okla.) America had Rosewood and put that butchery on the big screen. America had Watts in 1965, the “long, hot summers of the mid-1960s, Miami (1980), L.A. (1992) and Cincinnati (2005). America had thousands of people killed, injured or arrested in these disturbances and many others. But, it never stopped using racism as a social medium.

Just like Muslims and Christians, Protestants and Catholics, America forced two groups to get along. Some listened. Others didn’t. We never had a race war.

But, we never had real peace either.

The most revealing statement throughout this entire horrible event came from Omar’s girlfriend when she said “ Every name in the newspaper was a person he mentioned who has called him racist names or said racist things to him”. Nothing can justify what this young man did but as a black man……I understand!

THE TRUE IDENTITY OF THE BLACK MAN and WOMAN IN AMERICA ACCORDING TO THE BIBLE

Ok. Before I continue I would like to show you that Moses himself was a black man according to the Bible. (If Moses was black, what does that make Jesus? His description is in the Bible also)

18And when they came to Reuel their father, he said, How is it that ye are come so soon to day?

Here is shows that Moses was mistaken for a Egyptian. We all know the true Egyptians were African.
Exodus 4:6-7
6And the LORD said furthermore unto him, Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous as snow.
7And he said, Put thine hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again; and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh.
Notice in this passage, the terms white as snow and other flesh. Now if you ever saw a person suffering with albinism (albino) you will notice that their skin is pink. Much like a white person. Infact (though that’s another story) albinism and caucasians are in the same gene pool. Now if Moses was white, why in Exodus 4:7 it states that Moses’s skin turned back to the color of his original flesh? In order for Moses’s hand to have a drastic change in color would be if his skin was black. Moses was a black man.

Lamentations 4:8 8Their visage is blacker than a coal; they are not known in the streets: their skin cleaveth to their bones; it is withered, it is become like a stick.

Jeremiah 12:9 9Mine heritage is unto me as a speckled bird, the birds round about are against her; come ye, assemble all the beasts of the field, come to devour.
Speckled bird represents the many shades of our people. How do we know that God is talking about his people here? Check this out.

So the Bible equates Egypt with bondage. In otherwords…

So now we can clearly see that Bible is talking about our ancestors being brought to this country as slaves. Remember our ancestors came to this country by ships…

There is an excellent scent in the movie, CRASH, which accurately portrays a black man who had ‘had enough’ after being racially humiliated, and was ready to die, or kill if necessary to uphold his manhood. I’m not a big fan of Terrance Howard, but his acting in that scent epitomized the concept of doing what must be done … “By any means necessary…” – Malcolm X.

I believe that Omar was racially harassed, and was outraged that he was fired for doing the same thing that his white co-worker had done. Pushed over the edge, he had had enough. He was the only black/African American driver at the distribution center, and they didn’t want him there. And, yes. I believe that his supervisors were out to get him. He was caught stealing a small amount of beer from a case that was already broken/damaged. It was a minor misdemeanor. Surely, Omar was not part of a big organized theft scheme/ring. But his coworkers didn’t like him, and they probably tipped off his supervisor, and then they trapped/caught him on tape.

The reality is that it is not an uncommon for delivery drivers and other workers at a distribution center to steal items that are labeled ‘return’ because the crate/package was damaged. It’s sort of an ‘honor among thieves’ type of thing. No more different from individuals ‘stealing’ small office supplies – a writing pad, pens, a stapler, etc. from a company storage room. This does not make it ‘right’ or justified, but it is a fact.

Incidentally, I been to Hartford, CT. The area I visited in 1992 was posh affluent upper class conservative WASP. Yet in recent years this area and many similar neighborhoods and communities across the country are becoming increasingly diverse. And long-time residents DO NOT like this trend.

Many individuals are in denial if they do not believe that conservative White Americans feel that their lifestyles and livelihood is threatened. Following the Christmas Day ‘underwear bomber’, and the Times Square bomber incidents, Americans – especially conservatives, feel even more suspicious and threatened by anyone resembling the profile of a possible terrorist, or anyone of Hispanic/Latino heritage because both of these groups reminds White Americans that the precious homogeneous heritage they so revere is quickly phasing out. Worse, the latter demographic -Hispanic/Latinos – have come to represent the cause and blame of economic burdens on State resources.

I surely cringe when I think of the innocent people that Omar Thornton murdered. Yet, I also believe that he was pushed over the edge and committed this horrific crime because he simply had enough. And this makes the company he worked for and ‘the system’ partially culpable.

This is so true. I’m not condoning what he did, but I do understand. People like to forget things like that there were mentioned above. I definitely understand where you’re coming from and I agree with you in theory. My only problem is that based on how your response was written, I felt like you feel like, we, as a people, have more negative attributes than positive attributes. I’m not gonna dispute the ignorance that is publicly displayed, but I always try to let people know that we, as a people, are better than that and we can’t and shouldn’t allow the negative ones to make us look this bad. I can definitely attest to being one of the first who will speak the truth and will definitely expose the ignorance, so I do get what you’re saying, all I’m asking is to not generalize us as a people in the negative sense when we both know the positive ones are out here. Either way, I do appreciate the dialogue and feel that WE are the ones that need to change the perception by our actions.

I agree with you. This article is more about the racism we still face, I just used the Omar Thornton case as an example. I would never kill another, but the overtones in how he felt he was treated is what provoked me to write this piece.

Racism comes in so many levels but is racism all the same. I have found that many white people have this imaginary sense that this country and everything in it belongs to them. They seem to thing that they just divy out to us enough to keep us quiet. This has really come to the surface again since the election of President Obama. Look at the hate being displayed along with the lies and half truths. If the truth be known, many white people do not care for the idea of the head of our country being an African American. The media doesn’t report on this because, as blatant as it is, it is also primarily psychological and they cannot put out reports based on mind reading. I live in the south and have and continue to experience racism at diffent levels. As black people we need to do 3 things: Accept responsibility for our own actions and don’t try to play the “race card” at the drop of a hat. Have this conversation with open minded people of all races. Call to the carpet these “Toms” like Ron Christie, Clarence Thomas, and especially Alan Keyes. Surely they realize that after all is said and done, they will still be the “N” word to much of the republican constituency.

Racism completely and totally exists…look at the media examples. Lindsay Lohan only had to service less than 2 weeks of a 90 day sentence. She has caused fights, is an alcoholic, takes drugs, never tried to finish rehab. Lil Kim gets a year and a day for not being a snitch and had to serve every second of that sentence…go figure

Thanks for your response. A lot of what I stated wasn’t directed at you personally but in general, based on the comments I’ve read here. Granted, as a white male, I do not make a habit of visiting or posting on black oriented sites, but this incident and the manner in which I’ve seen other blogs portray it, has gotten my attention.

Suffice it to say that it has been an eye opening expeirence for me. In an environment where one is afforded the protection of anonymity, you can generally accept that whatever comments are made, they are made in earnest. I absolutely believe the comments I’ve read here.

What I take away from all of this is that educated, successful, mainstream black Americans almost unanimously justify Omar Thornton’s actions, if not downright suport them. Comments such as “then things will be even” “400 years of free labor” etc, etc, etc. all seem to be rooted in revsionist history.

The most apparent thing is that no one calls what Omar did “racist.” no one questions the so-called “evidence” he was racially harassed (as if that were an excuse in the first place).

I’m cool with it, its your blog. but I can honestly say I’m glad I read what I read
becuase it is very good information for me as a white male to have…………….

Racism does still exist everywhere. However, still we as a people will never get ahead in this world if we don’t come together. I watched a movie last night called “Blood Done Signed my Name”, . It was about an uprising that took place in Oxford, NC due to a racial killing of a black man that was talking to two young black women outside a store and a white man that thought that the man was talking to his wife. the movie displayed how “White” people come together and are the masters of deception. All the white people for the defense got together and practiced the lie and that is what they stuck to. The white killers we not convicted. What we as a people need to do is to support each others businesses, endeavors, dreams, and ambitions; and stop trying to get a damn discount when we go to black owned businesses. We need to help each other build our businesses so that we have more options for our shopping needs. If we build our own businesses then we can take money from the white man and build our communities and families without the white mans involvement and many more of us would get higher paying jobs. Take control of the markets so that we can take control of our lives and show them that we are just as important as they are if not more. Let us not forget, we are the master race, the template from which all other races came from.

Here in North Carolina racism is very much live and well. I myself am a IT professional and I have put in for jobs that I know that I was qualified for. However, with having those with lesser/lessor credentials than I have, I am more of a threat to these people and their positions so more often than not, I am told that I am over qualified, too assertive, or that they found someone better suited for the position. One company in particular Ovature Networks told me that I was too assertive for the position of Network Engineer when they were two weeks behind on a project and didn’t know how to get the job done and make it look good. Other companies don’t call back or play games and give you the position and then snatch it back once the offer is made when they call my references and find out that I actually know what I am talking about and doing and more.

However, we can’t let this stop us or daunt us. I decided to go full steam ahead with my own business that I had put on the back burner for a while. However, now I have 4 contracts with other companies and steady bringing about my own customers and clients; making my own money and making my own schedule. It is time people…. Get rid of the crabs in a bucket syndrome, stop holding your hand out for handouts, start extending your hand to take what is yours, what you want and what you need.

Your views are the furthest from the truth. I don’t know who you consider educated, successful, mainstream black Americans, but, I, for one, have made no comments supporting your theory and view. I wouldn’t justify what he did, as I don’t feel any man has the right to end someone else’s life. My question to you is, how many educated, successful Black people have you spoken to directly? Are you getting your views from reading blogs/sites? The people that I speak to on a regular basis who are educated and successful, would not agree with your statements. And I don’t want to assume or sound mean, but do you personally know any Black people that fit the description of who you speak of? And, out of curiosity, where do you live?

Black people are confronted every day with racism, you do not have to leave your house, you do not have to turn on the tv, look at the cereal boxes, and anything else you buy where there are pictures of people on them, there are never any black faces, even on products we use more than anyone else, it is rampart, it is everywhere, those who do not or cannot see it, then there is a problem with these individuals. Our Bro Omar, the media has reported he took pictures with his cell phone of racist eptects in the restrooms. These managers, and/owners saying he had not complained, they are lying through their teeth. Many times though, white people do not know when they are being racist, it is so ingrained in them. I see them on tv all the time talking about racism. My question is this, if whites were not racist, then why do we see the problems we see with black people, most of the problems blacks have, is because of racism, and post slavery I call attention to racism anywhere I spend my money, or my tax dollars are being used. I have called attention to store managers about the racism, and to no avail. We black people are going to have to stop spending our money where we are taken for granted, and no show of appreciation for our spending. Black people need to understand, we are living in a society of racist, they feel we should take a back set to them, and they realize they have to be that way to keep white supremacy in place. White people will always be racist, once black people realize that, we will be on our way. I will say it again, they drove Omar to snap, the brother saw, and was aware of what was going on, and he could not take it anymore. The ancestors will greet him with open arms.

I respect your views, but, no disrespect to the people that are commenting but it’s a vast amount of people with different backgrounds commenting on this site. Success is relative. I wouldn’t base my opinion about Blacks solely on the comments being read on here. I’m sure if you visited other sites or spoke to other Blacks, the opinions would vary and not everyone would agree with the assessment that Omar Thornton was right in killing those people. But, I would say that many would agree, if the reason he did it was because of how he was treated, some would say they understand why he did it, not to say they would do it themselves. We all, as PEOPLE, have breaking points and I know for a fact that it IS frustrating to be judged based on the perception of someone who doesn’t know anything about me. Just like it would be wrong of me to think that you are racist based on the fact that you are white, but, I’ve never made that distinction and I am basing my dialogue on what you have written, not based on what color your skin is.

Maybe I misunderstood, but it sounds as if you think I’m a black trying to pretend to be white? Either way, truth is truth, regardless of the source. You are correct that no economy existed based soley on slave labor in Africa. You are further correct in settling most of the liability for slavery on white Europeans; I certainly don’t deny that.

In the 1600′s the earliest Europeans who arrived on this continent attempted to enslave the indigenous people without success. It is a historical fact that African slavery thrived simply because it was convenient. Slave trading was a business. If Europeans could have enslaved other peoples with less resistance, they certainly would have.

African tribes contributed to the longevity of African slavery by basically doing all the hard work: capturing other Africans and delivering them (sometimes at a distance of hundreds of miles) to the Europeans. Plain as that.

Excellent points. I don’t know about other cultures but I’ll take your word that whites “do it best.” I think hsitory more or less agrees, especially in this country.

You raise an interesting argument about “the majority controlling the minority.” You cannot legislate personal behavior. Apparently, even our Supreme Court upholds the right for the KKK to exist. Do I condone the KKK/ Absolutley not, but neither can they be silenced.

I would disagree with you that most whites aren’t racist as my experience leads me to believe they very much are. They may not be overtly so, or publicly so…but at (levels of course vary) at some level, most I know are.

Me, I don’t know 100% if I may not have some racist in me. I believe what I believe though. But to hold any man down for any reason is wrong, I support that.

Yeah, Ced, I do believe that. Years ago I read this book called “Black Like Me” supposed true story about this white guy who took some medication which changed his skin pigmentation. I was a teenager and I was pretty stunned by the things he wrote. Like I said, it was published as a true story but maybe it was just to sell a book.

But to borrow a line from a famous story; “One who is freezing to death can never expect sympathy from a man in an overcoat”, I really don’t have the frame of reference of what it’s like to be discriminated against as a member of a racial minority, just not possible for me to relate in a personal way.

So I grew up too with a lot of racism, you could say I was raised to be racist. Not “indoctrinated” let’s just say there were a lot of racist jokes and derogatory comments in my home when I was a kid. My father was pretty racist, though at the time, I really didn’t have much other information, it was the 1960′s. he called Dr. King “Martin Lucifer Coon” and though it was funny and so did I. Stuff like that.

He didn’t like me playing football with (“n-word”) when I was in High School, but by then I could think a little for myself. I mean he was my dad! Once I invited two team mates over to watch NFL on a Sunday. They were black and I never really gave much thought to it, like it wasn’t a personal challenge against my father, it was us just wanting to watch some football and hang out. When they showed up, I ushered them right into the kitchen to meet the folks like kids do. My dad never said a single word. He got up from his chair and walked out the door. He called from a phone booth and told my mother he’d be back when those (n word) were out of his house. it was pretty bad feeling, to say the least- I don’t think I’ve ever felt more humiliated- but I’m sure it was nothing compared to what my friends felt.

I cannot apologize for my father, my race, or the actions of the past. It IS on me to do the work to make sure I am not a racist. I think I have a ways to go. Intellectually, I cannot defend any type of racism, but some of the things I say dont make me proud. reading some of the comments here and elsewhere, which really is probably the first time I’ve paid much attention to what blacks have to say about racism today. I’m not saying I deliberately ignored the issue, it just wasn’t something that I was aware of until this tragedy.

Ok. I said those things for me more than anyone else. I am not loking for absolution or approval, but I have to admit there has been a sad lack of humility in my own heart.

This is such a tragedy for all victims. Yes there is racism everywhere, not just america. I personally was fed up with the legal and corrupt systems in america and bought a one ticket out of the nation. I still see racism but not like if i was to still live in the mainland states, no matter how you put it racism is racism, which equals to lack of proper education on how we should be really behaving in this modern day. Did I run? in my terms no, I just had better opportunities career wise outside America and was blessed to meet those opportunities. Mr. Thorton had a lawsuit in his favour and didnt even know it. sorry he took his life, but people are getting sick and tired and will result in extreme measures if needed it seems. i dont support those acts, but i cant speak for everyone. This article couldnt be any more truthful.

This is one of the reasons I wrote this article, to make some who don’t understand, get a better understanding of what I experience on a daily basis. I can honestly say that I feel 1000% better knowing you took the time to not only comment, but to see a different view and be open-minded enough to take in what was written between you and I (As well as other folks here). Maybe this starts the type of empathy from someone like you to see the world through different eyes. As I’ve previously stated, I can only speak from experience and although you did come off with a different view, I can see through your responses that you cared enough to come back and not only read what was written, but you took the time to respond and that earns respect from me towards you as well. It is never too late and there needs to be work done on BOTH sides and I will try to take care of what I need to do on my end to make things better.

I wrote the drunk uncle analogy in reference to people treating racism the same way they treat that drunk uncle. He is there, he is real, but no one wants to discuss him or his truths. Of course it’s deeper than that, but I wrote that to prove a point.

And no none knew this. In my abasement, we are partly to blame. Many black Americans do not support our own. WE tend to turn our backs on our brothers and sisters in the time of need. WE tend to beg mainstream society for acceptance. For example, the money that we spend for the clothes, cars, entertainment, and etc. Although education is very important, once we attain our degrees, white America puts in our head that our communities are beneath us and we must get cultured. Blacks, especially black men, who have the misfortune of being incarcerated are not worthy of forgiveness. Why don’t we decided to have our own? Why are we so quick to tear down another? Why is it so bad to be a black person in America? Why is and has America treated us so freakin bad? I have the pleasure of working in my career outside the U.S. and quite honestly, I am never to thrilled to come back. I didn’t experience racism until the fifth grade when the black kids started picking on us white kids,i had some black friends up till fifth grade until they turned mean to whites, it continued all the way through high school, later in college i learned about all the different groups and unions for blacks only…the naacp, black fire fighters unions, black police officers unions, all black baseball leagues, black student unions on every college campus, miss black america pageants, affirmative action, etc,etc, i could go on and on with the list . it seems to me that blacks have the upper hand these days so omar killing because of name calling shows that he had the mentality of a fifth grader with a gun. he chose not to use any of the thousands of organizations for blacks to get help with the name calling and other problems he was having on the job. he chose to be a raciest and kill white people instead!

The Omar Thorton tragedy is one where not only workplace racism is supposedly exposed, but how not to deal with workplace racism in the way that he did is also. Mr. Thorton had enough time to seek and apply legal measures against the company if he was being racially harassed even in America today. Whether Mr. Thorton had his finacial affairs in order to prepare for his pending dismissal we don’t know, but that could have ease some of the frustrations he apparently was facing. God rest all of the souls in this senseless tragedy. But let us not wave the banner of ” RACISM IN THE WORKPLACE”, now is not the time for that. Ive experienced black on white racism since the fifth grade but no amount of name calling is gonna make me shoot a bunch blacks, i’ve been called cracker,honky,white bread,etc. etc. ,i’ve had blacks tell me to get off their streets while walking through town, had my house robbed by blacks, and still i don’t go out and kill those blacks . what omar did was just the wrong way to handle things ,he could have gone to any number of organizations that are set up to help blacks and only blacks but instead he acted like a fifth grader with a gun and killed white people he didn’t like.

I always talk to my sons about issues like this. As they have become young men, they encounter it regularly … and because we are not wealthy, there is little to do without the risk of being arrested or hit with a hefty fine. And what white person that you know… with a masters degree and more then 10 years experience is being paid like they only have a GED? This is a very bitter topic for me. By all means, if my presence here as a white man offends, bothers or in any other way upsets you or anyone, just say so and I will respect you and leave. But I’m sorry that I do not agree I should have to pass some sort of “test” like posting beneath an unrelated article just because my views on Omar Thornton may be disagreeable.

Although I’m not agreeing with the way the brother handled the situation, believe me I understand what he was going through from being put in the same situation at a job I had. For five long years I had to listen to the racist jokes, racist thoughts, and racist actions of the people at this company that I worked for. It all came to a head when I was admonished while on my break by one of my white supervisor’s who told me that I couldn’t smoke in an area where everyone else smoked.

He berated me to the point to where my anger rose to the surface, I didn’t react with violence, but I told him what I would do to him if he talked to me like that again and furthermore if he ever spoke to me in that manner again he would be eating soup for the next six months because that is how long it would take for him to get out of ICU!! He attempted to come down from the dock to where I was standing and I again warned him that if he approached me he would get knocked out! After some of my fellow employees came around to calm the situation, I punched my time card and left. I never looked back since leaving that day, enough was definitely enough!

I outweighed this little mouse of a man by at least 50 pounds, ( at the time I weighed about 235. ) and I spent six years in the Army prior to this event where I learned Tae Kwon Do and Jujitsu. He didn’t know that at the time because I never spoke about it to anyone that I worked with. My point is that if I stayed at that job that day there would have been trouble so to avoid it I left and found another job after I used the resources available to me to hit the company where it hurts the most…in their pockets!! They were more pissed off for losing their court case than anything else. So brothers and sisters whenever you face racism at work, doc**ent everything, every event of racism, and get statements from people if you can so you can have a personal record of everything so you can hit them in the pockets!!

I truly wish that Omar Thorton took that course of action instead of doing what he did. Hopefully this note can serve as a positive example on what to do if faced with the same set of circ**stances. Big ups to rayskilla6 and especially to smiley392 because I know how the brother feels about that situation from living it myself!!

Now I don’t condone his actions, but if more Black people started standing up in fashions that made it clear that we don’t accept this treatment then things are bound to change. Many want to claim that racism doesn’t exist and it does largely in America simply because of the strata of class and race. Example: A white couple in a suburb here in Illinois were going to sell their house, but when they found the buyers of their house were Black, they rescinded their deal. The real estate agent was from Prudential and said that the couple’s preference for not desiring to sell to Blacks was not an uncommon occurrence and therefore leads to implications of continuing seediness amongst white people and other races as a whole toward Black people.

One can say in a society where Black men and women are not forming partnerships to confront racism (=”white” supremacist system) and the women have adopted a “white” female beauty aesthetic. This is just my opinion, but Dr King had the credibility because he lived the words he spoke. I also believe he knew those words would eventually cost him his life. He was honest by saying such things as “we are told to love our enemies but we dont have to like them” (I’m parpahrasing) and his vision was not just for black eqaulity but true racial harmony. He defied the President of the United States when asked to postpone the Poor Peoples’ March, he withstood the personal attacks by one of the most powerful men in Washintgon, J Edgar Hoover, and he endured the scorn of black nay-sayers who did not agree with his philosophies. In the end he lived to see the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act as a direct result of HIS personal actions. And in the end, he was murdered…I think by the FBI…
