I don’t think the girl is a monster. I don’t know, and can only guess at the backstory, but I do know that sometimes, euthenizing animals is an expense that a lot of rural people, like farmers, can’t afford.

It is common for puppies or kittens to be drowned if they are sickly. If their mom had any worms or parasites that caused the puppies to be sick, it may very well be necessary to put the puppies down. In the big city, we may be able to afford treatment or even to have a vet ‘humanely’ put them down (which sometimes actually means a shot that burns and hurts the animal as it dies).

But in rural areas, it may not be economically feasible to go that route. If one is born and raised in an area where one is used to having to deal with the death of animals so that us city slickers can see our meat wrapped up nice and neat and unoffensive on our grocery store shelves, then one may be hardened to the process of animal death.

In other words, this girl may have had to deal with a lot of animal deaths. The first time she had to drown a bucket of puppies, it may have shredded her heart to have to do it. By now, she may be used to it, and a bit jaded even. That doesn’t mean that she should have tossed them with glee, but I can understand how one who is used to the task as par for the course by now, may be able to perform the gruesome work with a…dark sense of humor.

I don’t know that I am right about any of this. I can only speculate, but when looking at human nature, I like to try to consider the good in people, first, and give the benefit of the doubt until shown otherwise.

When I first saw the video, my immediate reaction was to be sickened. But I recognized that as an emotional reaction. When I took the time to reason it out, and think of the situation logically, I came up with other ways to look at it. And I still don’t know if she is a sick puppy (ha) or just a girl caught doing some dirty work that I’m grateful I never have to do.

yeah so i used to live out in the country and when an animal was sick, the humane way to do it was to use a gun, which, incidentally, is legal in PA within reason (i.e. your own animals, and they have to be sick).

have you heard of shelters??? puppies get adopted very quickly. if they don’t for whatever reason, or if they’re too sick to be adopted, the shelter might euthanize them. humanely.

bottom line: this is disgusting, and there are several more humane options. if drowning was humane, it’s way cheaper than euthanization, and everyone would do it.

Those who keep going on and on about ‘adoption’ are kidding themselves. Even PETA, who I do believe love animals, ends up killing many of them. Adoption is a joke for sick puppies.

If you want to get your gut-feelings-rocks off, then go ahead and make a snap decision about this case.

But if you want to keep it real with yourself, then you have to accept that T-61, which is one of the ways a vet ‘humanely’ disposes of an animal, is known to actually cause a painful burn to the animal.

Drowning the animal is a common way to euthenize in rural and farm areas. Accept that sh!t. Word. Because if you do, it will remove some of the ‘awww don’t hurt the poowa puppy’ syndrome.

If you can’t grasp that drowning puppies is common for rural and farm areas that need to eliminate sick animals, then you betta be vegetarian because YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH about the way your yummy chicken and steak reaches your plate. I completely get the whole, “look at the cuuute puppies, oh, they sooo little and wittle and cuuute!” because I had that initial reaction, too. But I had to take a moment to think things through from a logical stand point, because that’s my style. At the ripe old age of 36, I have learned that conclusion jumping is hell on the knees.

I have put more work into shutting down cracka racism before breakfast than lots of folks have in their entire life. I spend my life teaching the babies who the original man and woman are, and what their duties are. But I am not about to spend my life changing my natural inclination to deal in reason and facts just because some white folks may or may not lose their way. White folks wouldn’t even be here, were it not for the original man being here first, so I take full responsibility when one of them does something misguided, and I strive to see where they are f**king up, so I can teach the babies better.

In this case, I am not convinced the young lady was f**king up. If someone has evidence that the puppies weren’t sick and needing to be euthenized, then I will humbly change my tune.

In two posts in this thread, and in one post in a related thread, you have suggested that I approve of killing babies. I will say here what I said there. That is a straw man. I never made that argument or even suggested it. You have erected that straw man so that the reader might dismiss my actual stated points upon feeling sympathy for all the poor babies I approve of drowning. But you don’t give the reader enough credit, because a wise reader will note that I have never suggested it is ok to drown babies.

The fact that dogs are eaten in other cultures is immaterial. It doesn’t factor in to this, so I don’t know why you brought it up. The fact is, right here in our own culture (American Society, I mean…not necessarily black culture) puppies are drowned as a means of euthenization on a regular basis. It is a part of life for some rural or farm families in some parts of the nation. They don’t have the same view of dealing with animals as a city folk because they are used to all manners of animal death. If a puppy is sick and newborn, then drowning may be chosen. For older and larger animals, it may be a bullet. There are different methods, but the disconnect between what we are used to seeing and dealing with and what they are used to is large enough that I admit I don’t understand enough to condemn the girl. So I don’t condemn her.

The fact that the police are looking for her (found her) means NOTHING to me. They are still looking for many people that I know for a fact are innocent of their accusations, so their pursuit of her doesn’t change my outlook on the actual moral and ethical implications of her actions. It doesn’t surprise me or sway me that there are legal implications.

And as far as suggesting I would defend Hitler; ha. Where I come from, we call that Godwin’s Law. Once a message board discussion reaches the point where one is bringing up Hitler when he has nothing to do with the issues, well…that’s a sign of giving up on debating the actual facts. Weak tea, in my opinion, so I never bring up Hitler unless the discussion is Nazi Germany.

And lastly, suggesting that clicking on all the blue links that are embedded in internet articles is research is a slap in the face to anyone who has ever perused volumes of information, cross referenced, weighed out peer reviewed papers and struggled to understand books written over their head and education level, but pressed on regardless out of a thirst for factual knowledge, using a dictionary if need be to break down some of the more difficult words and concepts. That’s research, for which I have much respect.

Clearly this little heffah is getting some enjoyment out of it, which makes it appear that this was not tossing them because they were sick, but a wicked, twisted child’s way of having fun. Oh and by the way, I have friends and family who still live in rural areas and if the puppies(or some other domestic animals) were to get sick or were born sickly they let nature take its course. Lefemme, I did consider her demeanor, and I think one should maybe do such a grotesque task with a more somber and respectful tone. It would be less offensive to an observer. But I also considered that perhaps she is jaded to the task. The first time she had to do it, it may have been hard for her.

But if she has had to put down many animals, or have had to see animals that she has formed bonds with be slaughtered on a regular so that their meat may be packaged for food, then she may have developed a tough skin, as well as some defense mechanisms for coping with such gruesome work.

But again, I can only speculate. Anything I know about a farm, I know by heresay or reading. I have never lived in any rural areas at all, especially not in post war torn Bosnia. So I really just wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt, since it is my choice to try to see good in folks before I assume the worst.

And although I don’t know much about farm life, I can speak with first hand knowledge to the idea of ‘letting nature take its course’. I have had to have a cat put down before. We didn’t have much money growing up, but my mom wouldn’t hear of doing it any other way than the vet. After the vet gave the shot to the cat, I could see that Supastition (that was my cat’s name. :-) ) was definitely in pain. I held her to the end, but I know that she felt pain from the shot. Afterwards, research on the drug used, t-61 confirmed that indeed, Supastition probably didn’t go as peacefully as I would have liked. Regardless, letting nature take its course in that case would have been cruel to the animal. She was in pain and not getting better. She was suffering to the point of torture and needed to be put down. It is natural for folks who don’t want to see their pet suffer to take matters into their own hands. That’s natural, and so, that is nature taking its course.

To recap, I agree with you that it is unsettling to see her shout ‘weeeee’ while handling the job.

At the very least, this girl needs to be checked into a mental institution and evaluated to asses if she could very much harbor more of the tell-tale signs of a future sociopath.
