The hip-hop mogul’s interest in becoming a sports agent was revealed when his entertainment company, Roc Nation Sports, dabbled in sports representation last April. New York Yankee second baseman Robinson Cano is one of Jay-Z’s most notable clients. It was quite a coup, particularly since he was reportedly Roc Nation’s first sports client.

Jay-Z, whose money-making wheeling and dealing talents have now spilled over into the sports arena, owned a small fraction of the Brooklyn Nets basketball franchise. In April, he fully divested himself from the NBA team that he helped move from New Jersey in order to properly run Roc Nation Sports.

Although Jay-Z is still considered to be a rookie agent, his company represents NFL players Victor Cruz and Geno Smith, NBA superstar Kevin Durant and WNBA player Skylar Diggins. He is also reportedly seeking to obtain an NFL player agent certification as well.

There is no doubt that Jay-Z will take on a more active role in his company’s contract negotiations as time moves on.
