Since the tragic death of his wife, Carlos Morales and his quadruplets have captured the hearts of America.

In a recent interview with People, Morales dished on life as a single father and shared fond memories of his late wife, Erica. Carlos says Erica was the love of his life. After hearing they were expecting not one, but four children, he was anxious yet excited about starting a new life with his huge family. Tragedy stuck in January, when his 36-year-old partner went into hypovolemic shock and died after delivering the babies.

His story quickly grabbed the attention of the web and a GoFundMe was created for the family. So far, a total of $397,000 has been donated to the Arizona native.

Morales says he was overwhelmed by the support and love he’s received from the story going viral.

“We’re just doing our best. I’m feeling really, really grateful for everybody that just came together and helped us,” he said, referring to the community outpouring of physical support and financial donations that have come through a GoFundMe page.

Morales isn’t alone in his parenthood journey. Erica’s mother Sondra Bridges has moved in to help care for little Carlos Jr., Tracy, Paisley, and Erica.

“It’s funny how things turn out. Bittersweet, but at the same time, thanks to God, and the outpouring support of the public, it’s been phenomenal,” she said. “And I’d like to say thank you to each and every one of you. All the support we’ve gotten from you, we appreciate it.”
