Rev. Jesse Jackson’s mother, Helen Burns Jackson, passed away Monday. Since the news of her death, Jackson and his family have received an outpouring of support. On behalf of the Congressional Black Caucus, Chairman G. K. Butterfield released a statement about her passing: “The members of the Congressional Black Caucus are saddened by the passing of Mrs. Helen Burns Jackson, the mother of Reverend Jesse Louis Jackson. Mrs. Helen Jackson was a kind and compassionate woman who stood beside her family as they championed equality and justice for all Americans,” he said. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies and prayers to the Jackson and Burns families during this time of bereavement.” Mrs. Jackson died at a hospital in Greenville, South Carolina. She was 91-years-old.
Macy’s to Close 40 Stores Due to Stagnant Sales
According to reports, Macy’s plans on shutting down 40 stores that aren’t performing well. The national retailer’s growth has been stagnant, as many people are opting to shop online rather than visit stores. The outposts they plan on closing account for 1 percent of company sales. After these closings, Macy’s will have about 730 stores. Although some will be shut down, CEO Terry Lundgren believes brick-and-mortar stores are still essential. “Physical stores remain absolutely vital to our omnichannel strategy, which provides local touchpoints and tailored merchandise assortments for shoppers in nearly every major market,” he said in a statement. Prince Releases Album Through TIDAL
Major artists have gotten involved with Jay Z’s TIDAL streaming service, and the latest one to do so is the legendary Prince. Prince and his band 3rdEyeGirl recently released a new album called HITNRUN Phase One through TIDAL. The album features songs like “HARDROCKLOVER” and “This Could B Us.” Artists like Rita Ora and Lianne La Havas are featured on the album. Read more.
