Hopefully, Gabrielle Petito is found alive and well. Unfortunately, there are non-white Gabrielle Petitos across the nation who deserve the same mainstream media attention and sense of urgency but will never receive it.

As another year of commemoration goes by and more ‘Never forget’ messages are posted, we shouldn’t forget that part of the legacy that continues to inflict unbalanced attacks on Black and other communities experiencing injustice. 23-year-old Dayton, Ohio, man Darren Boykin died in police custody in Texarkana, Texas, after repeatedly telling officers he couldn't breathe. Two years later, Boykin's mother has filed a wrongful death lawsuit accusing officers of being  “deliberately indifferent” to her son's complaints and well-being.

On Tuesday, a judge ruled that video of Alvin Motley's shooting by Memphis Kroker Security guard Gregory Livingston will not be made available to the public or to Motley's family until after Livingston's preliminary hearing.
