The Black Ballot – Episode 19: Conspiracy Theories Attack Democracy
Covid was devestating to the entire world. As Americans tried to navigate such a dramatic new normal we were looking to our leaders for guidance and Trump, who denied science and dismantled Obamas Pandemic response team early in his Presidency wasn’t successful in giving most American’s the confidence that our lives were in the best hands. Staying at home meant more and more people were on social media for longer periods of time. George Floyd and a host of other black victims who became hashtags would provide an outlet for people to get out of the house and take the streets in protest. But this progress was also met with attacks on Black Lives Matter leadership and ultimately the demise and resignation of some of the founders. It was also the perfect storm for misinformation and disinformation to grow with so many at home with nothing but time on their hands. Qanon conspiracy theories ran rampant and strangely attached themselves to Donald Trump. Joe Biden, vowing to bring normalcy back to the Soul of America.
