What is Tiger Woods’ net worth? Tiger is worth $500 million, and while the golf great only makes about half of what he did in 2009, at his peak, he still earns $59.4 million a year, according to Forbes. That was enough to land Tiger at third place on the magazine’s list of the “100 Highest-Paid Athletes,” and in the 12 months leading up to June 2012, only two boxers—Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. ($85 million) and Manny Pacquiao ($62 million)—brought in more cash. Tiger had topped the Forbes money list since 2001, but since his much publicized marriage scandal, he’s lost such sponsors as Gillette and Tag Heuer and seen his golf course design business struggle.

Tiger’s net worth of $500 million is impressive, but his fortune has fallen considerably. In 2009, before the marriage scandal, he was worth $600 million. He’s earned more than $1 billion over the course of his career, but in 2009, just after news surfaced that he had been cheating on Elin Nordegren, he lost his deals with Accenture, AT&T, and Gatorade. When those and other sponsors cut bait, it cost Tiger $22 million, according to a 2009 estimate by Sports Illustrated. While reports suggested Nordegren would seek $750 million in the divorce settlement, that figure was unrealistically inflated, and Tiger’s ex-wife ultimately got $110 million. Woods may have also paid hush money to former mistresses to help salvage what was left of his reputation.

Tiger’s fortune will rebound if he gets it together on the golf course, and it seems like he is. While he failed to win any PGA events in 2010 or 2011, he’s turned it around in 2012 and, as of July 2012, placed first in three tournaments, earning $4,220,398. The 36-year-old California native is once again first on the PGA money list, so he might reach that $600 million peak again soon. Interestingly, were he in hip-hop, not golf, Tiger would be tied with Diddy—also worth $500 million—for first place on the list of the “20 Richest Rappers,” according to Celebrity Net Worth. And as we know from the erstwhile Puffy’s “Bad Boy for Life” video, Tiger’s got a better golf swing, so he wins the tiebreaker.
