Plus size model and ‘American Idol’ alum Joanne Borgella has passed away at the age of 32 after an intense battle with a rare form of cancer, reports Plus Model Magazine.com.

Plus Model Magazine has more:

Joanne was the first winner of Mo’Nique’s Fat Chance pageant as “Miss F.A.T.” in 2005 and a top 24 contestant on the seventh season of American Idol. She was also a cast member on Season 2 of Curvy Girls on NUVO TV. She was signed to Wilhelmina Models.

Joanne was also featured in a plus size fashion supplement feature in USA Today in April 2012 that we also featured in our April 2014 issue on pages 55 – 73.

Borgella announced to her fans that she was battling cancer in October, 2013. The beloved performer’s last post on social media shows that she had faith that God would make sure that she beat the disease:

Borgella’s family left the following message on her Facebook page:

To God be the glory!

With heavy hearts, we are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Joanne.

On Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 5:45AM, Joanne Borgella Ramirez was called by the Lord to heaven.

At an early age, Joanne made a choice to serve and trust the Lord; and since her diagnosis over a year ago, Joanne made a choice to also be a fighter and share her journey with the world. Her faith, courage and strength were unshaken throughout every obstacle she encountered. Although our family is suffering with this great loss, we find comfort in the closeness Joanne shared with the Lord. We know her spirit still shines and will continue to live on in heaven.
