VH1 premiered their new reality TV series, “Sorority Sisters,” which has drawn the ire of many, including Roland Martin, host of “NewsOne Now” and a White member of Delta Sigma Theta. They shared their impressions on the show.

The show features women from Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc, and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.

Martin, who “despises” most reality television shows, took part in a tweetchat in conjunction with Sil Lai Abrams Truth In Reality organization where he commented on the show during its debut on VH1.

From Roland Martin’s Twitter timeline:

Later on “NewsOne Now,” Amber from Clemson, S.C., a White member of Delta Sigma Theta, called to weigh in on VH1’s new show.

She told Martin that as a White soror, VH1’s “Sorority Sisters” is “really disappointing to see.”

Amber was offended by how the White cast member was being portrayed saying, “A lot of people will see one White Delta and think that we are all like that.”

“I’m constantly fighting people thinking I joined for the attention and so clearly that is what it looks like for her, because she is now on a national television show, kind of using her Whiteness, I believe, to get on that show,” said Amber.

“They want to see the reaction, they want to see the drama and that’s not what we’re supposed to be about so it is really disappointing.”

Listen to Martin and “NewsOne Now” caller Amber discuss “Sorority Sisters” below. Do you think this show and others like it are damaging African American women’s view of themselves?
