Before Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby delivered a commanding performance at a news conference earlier this month when she announced charges against six police officers in the death of Freddie Gray, she appeared on “Judge Judy.”

Mosby, 35, whose maiden name is James, appeared on the reality court show as a 20-year-old college student in a suit against neighbor Ryan Johnson and won a $2,000 judgment, according to the New York Daily News.

Mosby zoomed into the national spotlight earlier this month when she announced charges against six Baltimore officers in the death of 25-year-old Gray, who was arrested April 12 in West Baltimore. He suffered a severed spinal cord and other injuries in police custody after his arrest and his death a week later sparked national protests

The News says a spokeswoman for Mosby confirmed her appearance on the show in 2000, when the current top prosecutor was an undergraduate at Tuskegee University in Alabama.

Per the NY Daily News:

Mosby had left her four-bedroom Tuskegee apartment for three months during the summer break and returned in the fall to find her door broken down and the residence trashed, she recounted on the popular show…

Johnson, the neighbor, told the court that someone had broken into the building and he had no idea what had happened.

But Johnson’s wife was pregnant and Mosby found “baby decorations” and other “evidence of a baby shower” inside her locked bedroom.

Not only did she plead her case eloquently, she provided the judge with evidence that helped her win her case.

Was Mosby already ready for her day in spotlight in the Freddie Gray case? Watch the video above and let us know your thoughts.
