We’re now hearing denials of responsibility for a racist meme featuring President Barack Obama.

Officials at the Delta County Colorado Republican Central Committee Party are blaming hackers for the image that appeared on the personal Facebook page of its chairwoman, The Daily Sentinel reports.

“This whole thing is a hoax. Someone got into the Facebook somehow. It was hacked and somebody got into it, definitely,” Committee Vice Chairman Vic Ullrey told the Sentinel.

Ullrey added that he’s clueless why hackers would target the chairwoman, Linda Sorenson. He speculated that someone is trying “to damage the Republican Party.”

The photo, which appeared last week, shows former President Ronald Reagan in a 1950s movie bottle-feeding a chimpanzee. The text below the still says, “I’ll be damned … Reagan used to babysit Obama.”

Sorenson didn’t respond to the Sentinel’s request for an interview.

On Thursday, Sorenson told blogger Jason Salzman that the Facebook post was a joke.

“I really don’t care if people are offended by it,” Sorenson stated to Salzman, who broke the story on his blog, Bigmedia.org.

The image has been shared online for years. It was one of the photos that Ferguson, Missouri police and city officials shared, the Washington Post reported.
