UConn Coach Says White Kids Are Always Looked Upon As Being Soft

UConn Women’s Basketball coach, Geno Auriemma, held a press conference recently and defended the mostly white Stanford team. He said that at “white kids are always looked upon as being soft.” He also said that the media underestimates the mostly white Stanford team because the don’t look like UConn players Tina Charles and Maya Moore who are African American.

I give him much respect for having the guts to come out and say it. It’s the truth. Sportscasters have all types of buzzwords in sports that basically reinforce stereotypes.

The funny thing is that I hear more from white people that white athletes are “soft” than from Blacks. But if you actually know anything about sports you respect game when there is game, regardless of race. Its like picking the winner of a game based on the color of the team’s jersey: unscientific and pointless!
