2nd Black Woman Denied Harvard Graduation Due To School Shooting

Brittany Smith, an aspiring lawyer from Harlem and one of two Harvard seniors linked to last month’s killing in a Harvard dormitory, will not receive her diploma tomorrow, according to three officials familiar with her status.
Harvard University spokesman Kevin Galvin declined to comment about the status of Smith or Campbell yesterday. “The university has taken appropriate steps based on information we have learned about two female students identified by the Middlesex County district attorney’s office after the fatal shooting at Kirkland House,” Galvin said in a statement.
“But federal law and Harvard policy prevent us from commenting on the identities of those students or the steps that have been taken.”
During her years at Harvard, Smith was active in multiple community service organizations, mentoring, and afterschool programs, said a friend and classmate who did not want to be named because of the ongoing investigation into the killing. Harvard honored Smith with a university public service award last year.
She had spent much of her free time in Harlem and had planned to return there after graduation to be a community organizer, the friend said. Smith had also expressed interest in attending law school.

Havard is not the end all to be all. God is much bigger. This has less to do with the man than it has to do with God’s plans for these women.
Even if they don’t get the paper, they got the education which has all the value. They’re planning to bring that back to the community…right?
Then f*ck Havard, transfer them credits and get that degree from somewhere else.

You can change your surroundings all you want to but if you don’t change your mentality, all is lost. It’s so sad to see 2 sisters with such bright futures grounded before even getting the chance to take off. Anyone who believes that this will not escalate racial tensions at Harvard needs to wake up right now. We will soon begin to see a steady decline in the # of Chenequas, Marquitta, Jaquans, & Rayshawns at that school. It will be done systematically, and you’d better believe that in a few years one of the ‘higher-ups’ will even put out an article or two wondering about the decline in minority application & enrollment at their precious school. It is our obligation to make it so that no one can look down on us. People don’t just stop treating you badly because you SAY they should. you need to ACT like that’s what we want. We need to stop giving people reasons to label us.

Two more promising sisters fall victim to what was most likely a case of “thug love”. Here in my own city about a year ago a young woman lost her life to the same thing; some “business associates” of her thug boyfriend tried to put a hit on him and killed her by mistake…at least these Ladies are still above ground and still have a chance…
