If his intensions were to beat her up, he succeeded – as he punched her twice in the face it seems from the video after she was on the ground. He also followed his actions by picking her up by her hair. Yes, please tell us, what occurred to justify those actions? The American public must know! C’mon!

Well first of all…can we really complain about situations that we contribute to? The young lady was already keeping company with a questionable individual who would steal her mother’s car. Taking something without person IS stealing, no matter how much you sugar coat it. Plus each child should be taught not to disrespect authority. She had no right to lip off at an officer and argue with a grown adult. I’m sure the shoe kicking was the last straw for the cop. However….the police officer was definitely acting out of anger. There is no excuse for him punching her twice, after she was cuffed, and there is NO excuse for pulling her by her hair upon exit. We need to teach our children to be accountable for thier actions. Hopefully the young lady will learn to watch the company she keeps, and to respect authority, and hopefully the police officer will learn that he should not have even been arguing with a child, and that if his emotional state has the capacity to cloud his judgement, he needs to remove himself from the situation.

My cousin was 23 years old and was shot dead by Gadsden Police. He apparently had a arguement with his girlfriend and didn`t want to argue with her anymore. He left their home, and later returned to get clothes for work the next day. His girlfriend called 911 and told them that someone was breaking in her apartment. She also said the burglar was armed. Police came guns drawn and shot my cousin killing him. After my cousin was down they realized he didn`t have a weapon, and it was his house he was going into. This kind of brutality has to stop.

Damn…First off that s**t was wrong on so many levels. Ok, the cop says it was assault on an officer right…but was his response **REASONABLE**. For a 15yr old’s shoe being kick off…slamming their head against the wall, pulling their hair, and slamming them to the ground, punching them in the head 3+ times, then picking them up by their hair….come on, this was a case of a white man who was in power, showing just how bad he could be and abusing that power. I know she did’nt just say she borrowed her friend’s mother’s car, and tried to justify that it wasnt theft. I am not going to condemn this officer for his actions. #1 the car she was in was reported “stolen”, and here in wa.state the police stop stolen vehicles with thier guns drawn, why didnt she show attitude then? #2 In her own words she said in the interview “I kicked my shoe off at him”. #3 If the officer had not requested her to remove her shoes, she could have used the shoestrings to hang herself. This is really horrible! I think these cops were way out of line for bunching the girl in the head, it was excessive abuse and it was totally out of line and she should get justice and the cop should get punished according to the law. Having said that, on the flip side, we don’t know what was said throughout the day, was she mouthing off at the cops all day? Did she have an over-the-top attitude and wouldn’t comply with the officers commands at the time of arrest? etc. All I am saying is. there are two sides to every story and while that was messed up, the girl should have been quiet. A police officer has the power to enforce the law and has the power of life and death and can administer appropriate force if and when necessary. In this case, too much was used, but the girl was in the wrong for throwing her shoes(doesn’t matter if they touched him or not, besides the point)she has no right to that. Just be quiet, be patient and wait and sooner or later, she would have had the incident behind her. But nowadays many young kids think they can talk to anyone in any way, form or whatever pleases them. They don’t learn accountability and that is why so many of our youth are so messed up these days. What right would this officer have to go in and arrest a man during a domestic dispute for beating his wife because she said something to him that he did not like or she called him a name.He did the exact same thing when he beat this child because she “called me a fat pig”.Was he arrested? This is a clear misuse of police force at the hand of this officer. The girl was wrong for what she did and her behavior is a testimony of why she is under arrest. Contrary to her behavior, this policeman is an eight year veteran. Police are trained exstencively on how to handle adult offenders who refuse to cooperate by physically resisting arrest. This is a trained, adult, male police officer. The offender here is a teenage female with a severe problem. There is nothing in this clip that shows her physically resisting arrest. The officer should closed the door and locked it and let scream like any kid would do when in trouble. If she failed to stop her childish displays of frustration then send in a female officer to help get her under control. Now this eight year veteran police officer has allowed a teenage girl to place him in a position where is career is in jeopardy. This video caught my attention and automatically made me think about a young girl whom i frequently see on a train going from North East Philadelphia PA to center city. This young person, on many occasion i seen by my own eyes tearing off the ad posters on a train and she even took some of them to decorate her room according to to what she once said, she is always making back flips almost hitting people on the train grabbing some yougsters by the heads and shaking them very fiercely. She has always been totally misbehaving and I really feel sorry for that little girl, because i think she probably does not have any authority figure in her life. Last week i got on the train from center city Philadelphia and i tried to get a seat next to her when i asked her to move over so i could have a seat, her reply was automatically “NO, you can not seat next to me”. I slammed myself down and sat next to her. At that moment she was trying to push me off the seat so she could move out of there, and while she was trying to exit she said ” i better get out of here before i hit someone on the head with my umbrella” that little girl could be no more than fifteen years old and i could be her grand father. My point is that there are young kids out there who are totally out of control who would defy authority and force brutality on themselves by trying to be stupid to impress their peers. On many occasions i have seen young girls just like her who have become preys to pedophiles because they always tried to act older or thougher than their peers. I pray that God will help that little girl because deep in my heart i believe she is heading to a life of troubles in the next years she probably will be a mother with multiple children for different absent fathers.

Since when do kids get put in a holding cell for borrowing a family car without permission? Even if it was reported stolen, when a child of the person making the report is involved, don’t you normally take the kids back home and explain the situation to their parents? I’m not sure of their history or if the teens have any rap sheet or anything; but kids will be kids and do stupid things like borrow a parent’s car without permission. But if you begin to treat every teen that makes a bad decision like a criminal, you’ll eventually turn some into criminals or get sued for police brutality (which I hope this girl’s family does). With the economic and financial woes of this country, including federal, city, and state governments, society cannot afford to foot the bill for angry, rogue cops on the force and the lawsuits their out of order actions ensue. There needs to be a no-tolerance policy for police brutality; even if it means losing cops. In the long run, they’ll eventually wise up and chill out if they desire to keep their jobs. I know it is a tough and demanding vocation; but if a cop isn’t mentally tough enough to get sassed by a fifteen year old girl, to police department really needs to reconsider if the guy is really police material. He’s going to experience a hell of a lot worse than tennis shoes being kicked at him.

I’m so upset, that if I said what I wanted to say, there could be criminal charges brought against me. But I will say that this is a outrage, and it will continue to happen if we as mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, and love ones don’t speak out. The sad part about all of this is that now black officers have jumped on the beat a nigga band wagon,the law was called because i had my music up to high so when i opend the door the white officer steps inside not easly intimidated by any one i agreed about the music but asked him to remove himself out of my house he refused so i pushed his ass out slammed the door an locked it.To make a long story when I opened the door you should have seen the black officers with thier guns drawn ready to shoot.But back to the matter at hand he should have been fired immediatly an as far as the police sgt that says that there is two sides to every story he needs to be fired as well,they are all prejudice whites that hide behind badges risking thier lives for minimum wages ready to kill or beat a minority.

Having worked in law enforcement, I can tell you that not everybody who wears the uniform needs to be in one. Racist should not be cops, but they slip through the cracks and graduate P.O.S.T academies because people with the same mindset are the instructors. There should be more through background investigations done on all people seeking to serve as officers! He was wrong for beating that girl like that, bottom line.

I would like to ask, though, why she was in a car that she knew her teenage friend had taken from a parent without permission. That was poor judgment and at her age she should have been taught better by her parents!

SIGH….another day another senseless act. I just love how people see wrong and more often than not look for what the other person should or shouldn’t have done. As I see this act of violence from those that took an oath to serve and protect our communities, it’s an outrage.
The officer that stood there and allowed this crime, is just as guilty of this crime as the one that attacked this child. He’s an accessory to this crime and needs to be punished as well.

Officers are disrespected by young and old alike on a daily basis. His reaction to her filmed disrespect was one of a person with little emotional intelligence. I believe that his tone and demeanor from the onset of the arrest was degrading and belittling. This would cause any strong willed person young or old to stand up as a person and citizen. This is not the first time police used wrongful violence on ANYONE. There was an incident in Stark County Ohio where a woman called for help after being attacked by a cousin. The woman who called for help was the one arrested. She was forced into the back seat of a patrol car. Taken to the police station. Then 7 officers pinned her down forcibly removing all of her clothing. Even her under garments. And she got thrown into a jail cell for 6 hours completely naked. Her and her husband are suing stark county sheriffs for that. And stark County Sheriffs are denying allegations. So Malika Calhoun is not the only one who had to put up with police brutality. I do hope her family sues the Seattle police department for what they did to her. I really do feel sorry for Malika. I really do. So I hope this police brutality stops. Seriously.

This officer is dangerous. He could’ve killed this girl and may kill someone else. He may have killed in the past. The shoe bounced off of his leg… let him show his wounds. Sometimes when a suspect is placed in a holding cell they are told to remove their shoes and belt. It appears she was removing her shoes and that he objected to the way she complied with the order. Legally this should be treated as felony child abuse! As well as felony abuse buy an authority figure. There is also the possibility that this is a civil rights violation and a hate crime. It should be reviewed by an independent council for maximum action.

The question that needs to be answered is who do you turn to when the people sworn to protect you are the ones threatening your life. The news report stated that the young lady swore at the officers and kicked her shoes in their direction. This caused the officers to react by punching her in the face, throwing her against the wall, wrestling her to the ground and picking her up by her hair. I guess they were afraid that her 115 some odd pounds posed a serious threat to them, especially considering the fact that her arms were folded; which I suppose they perceived to be very dangerous. I thought that people in positions of authority were given their posts because the had proven themselves tolerant of flippant things like name calling. This video is simply appalling it turned my stomach, and it just goes to show that while you are innocent until proven guilty; the trip to the courthouse could prove to be a dangerous one.

I do not understand why this officer used such forced on this 15yr old female. She is a 15 yr old female and could not do anything to this officer in any way to harm him in the way he harmed her. We as officers are here to protect and service not to abused the rights of others. Officer like him make the ones that continue to be good officers a bad name. SEATTLE police need some sensitivity training.
This isnt the first time Seattle police have been in the limelight in concern of how they handle people of color.

This is straight ridiculous! This video has me totally disgusted with some law officers.

Due to his actions he has perpetuated the thoughts of how society sees him. He has made it worst because society sees him as not being fair, rude, dirty (by their actions), unjust, c**ky, and simply stated and shown as “Above the Law”. As a Law officer this was the perfect opportunity for him to show society that the negative stereotypes placed on him and his collegues isnt so. I am sorry he let and put his gut (emotions) into the situation.

Regardless, this was a girl (handcuffed/bonded) and on top of that she was 15 years old to be exact. Where is the woman officer that is needed to deal with her and escort her??? Some male officers just need to use plain straight to the point judgment in cases like this. If she was being “lippy” and you know your patience has run short/running short then get another officer to deal with her. This officer just rushed and slammed a girl to the wall and then the floor by her hair, his knees in her back and punched her more than once. She needs medical attention due to his actions. DANG!!! all of that for a show being kicked off into his area. So what she kicked the shoe out the door in his area. SO WHAT?? So what, it is not like she knocked him upside his head or anything. Or caused him any real bodily harm.

I wonder what would have really happened to her if she wasnt bound and threw that shoe upside his head. WOULD SHE BE TELLING HER STORY???
If he faces time then for his actions then so be it. But be so kind not to place him in the same jail with any of the people who he have arrested and probably have mistreated.

I have been watching many police brutality videos on you tube…. I have come to the conclusion that most of these so called protectors of justice are really low life abusers with a badge. Wow they are seriously undereducated, no account lawless, overgrown teenagers with a gun.
They are taught to use the uniform as a barrier or shield to all sarcasm; to conduct them selves as professionally as possiable under all conditions.
To never show personal feelings in any type of situation. They are supposed to be as professional as doctors. I honestly believe that racism wouldn’t be as bad today if we had had better cops. It goes back for decades. Blacks view whites based on what they have experienced through contact…. I feel sorry for our country, I feel sorry for our citizens. To continue to allow blatant disreguard for humans, bad cops now being caught should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, as if they are the criminal; because that is what they are. I also believe cops should have to go through 6-10 yrs of college before they can become an LEO. Maybe then we will get the kind of intelligent LEO’s that our country is so desparate for.
I pray that this poor girl gets the best lawyers, and help she can. I pray that she makes him pay for this.

I really think that police officers today prematurely judge people on the streets primarily because of fear. I can’t imagine being married to one.
