Limbaugh Calls Obama “Uppity”

Rush Limbaugh recently discussed Professor Charles Ogletree’s statement on the Rachel Maddow Show which implied that Palin was deriding Obama by referring to him as a Professor. He went into a long discussion about Clarence Thomas and the word “uppity,” before calling Obama “uppity.”

Here’s what Limbaugh had to say

A bunch of white people who thought electing a black president would assuage all of their guilt and erase our racial past voted for Obama. They couldn’t of cared less what he thought, what he said. He didn’t think of his as uppity, they were being selfish. They didn’t like feeling guilty over our racists past, slavery, and so they thought pulling the lever for Obama would absolve them. It wasn’t for his policies, as we are now quickly learning.

What Clarence Thomas meant by uppity, meaning he wasn’t a liberal black. When Clarence Thomas said uppity black thinks for himself means he’s off the reservation, so to speak. He’s not following the civil rights speech codes set forth by the Reverend Jackson and Al Sharpton and whoever else is in charge of them. But nobody — Obama is uppity, but not as a black. He is an elitist. He does think he’s smarter and better than everybody else. That’s what he was taught. He’s a Harvard man.

Given Limbaugh’s logic, wouldn’t that make both George Bushs and Dick Cheney “uppity” as well seeing as how they went to Harvard and Yale?

    Hmmm, Uh oh, I know imma catch some ‘ish’ for this one…But after reading the first paragraph of ‘what limbaugh had to say’ I’m almost inclined to agree with some of what he said. I do think there was definately an ‘agenda’ behind Obama being elected and hell no it wasnt that ‘Time for Change’ BS he was spittin around. White people voted the sucker in for the ‘string-a-bility’, and blacks voted him in for the skintone…Like Rush said…

    We’re supposed to be the best country in the world but we cant
    provide adequate Health Care for over “35 Million Americans”

    Our opinion is only relevant when they want us to validate their opinions of Obama.

    Think about that.

    Why are we always talking about individuals?

    Why aren’t we talking about specific policies?

    We’re on the verge of war with Iran, we’re doubly represented amongst the enlisted yet the media never asks what we think about these wars.

    Why don’t they want our opinions about health care and the economy?

    Instead of wasting brain-cells dissecting the racism of right wing radio, we need to be engaged on the substantive issues that make a difference in everyday life.

    Rush is an entertainer. He is not an intellectual or even remotely bright. However he is very INTELLIGENT in his own way. He has turned “talking” about ideas into a multi million dollar enterprise. But the world is full of talkers, so how is it that very few can translate that into that type of money? Rush has the ability to push the right buttons. The problem is, that there are things he says that really make a lot of sense, but the average person thinks otherwise because he has been packaged in such a way that makes everything out of his mouth, appear racist. Casey has been trained quite well in the art of taking comments out of context, and although he offered me some BS in another forum, proclaiming to be a “free thinker” (laughable) I always wonder why is so called “free thoughts” are always in lock step with hundreds of other liberal talkers in this country. Doesn’t sound so free to me. The problem with most delusional blacks is, in the face of mounting evidence, you STILL believe Obama is one of “us”. Meaning, he is an advocate for the poor in this country, even though you can’t provide a shred of evidence to support this. You fools still think that Healthcare reform was going to help YOU? Pharmaceutical and Healthcare insurance providers would have made billions? Why? because they wrote the damn bill. The man is uppity, and yes, that would make Chaney uppity as well Casey (what is the point?) I really don’t think GWB was “uppity” because he doesn’t fit that mold in my opinion. I’m no fan of Rush, for the same reason that I’m no fan of Charles Gibson or Rachel Maddow. They are ALL part of the corporate media wing, and ARE part of the status quo, not interested in dismantling it, so that makes them all, one in the same. The sooner black people figures this out, the better we will be collectively.

    These are the same idiots who accused the president of “not being in touch with America” because he vacationed in Hawaii (duh, his home state). Lots of people go home on vacation, but they are blaming him because his happens to be a sought after vacation destination. It’s the fact that the media spends so much time and money printing limbaugh’s message and getting him airtime.     you know, i don’t typically post on here but this particular article deserves an exception…i almost hate to admit it, but in an effort to be true to the context and not my own bias, i gotta say that Rush made a true and viable point…we all knew that white folks only voted obama in because they were trying to make themselves feel better…and what he meant by “and not for his policies” is evident in that those same white people are violently turning on him now that they’ve realized what they done…they thought that on jan 1st we’d all join hands across the world, light candles, and sing kumbaya, and they’d be off the hook…but the real world was waiting to slap them in the face and now they’re pissed cause we won’t let the truth go…and as far as his definition of obama’s “uppityness” i agree wholeheartedly…he is a harvard man, and any harvard man or woman automatically has a stronger tendency toward intellectual superiority merely because of having attended the institution…and by thomas’ definition, we should have more folk willing to buck the trend and think for themselves…obama is a leader, a free-thinker, an example of what we can achieve if we choose to…in my humble opinion, black folk that deride obama are the same ones that derided cosby, assuming that a picture of affluent african americans somehow embellished and reinforced our own inadequacy, instead of using that example as an impetus to achieve…but that’s just my opinion…

    I’m so glad to see that there are enough intelligent brother and sisters out there who recognize the “game” that Limbaugh plays and that is to push the right emotional buttons to solicit reactions from those who feel a certain way about Obama and blacks in general. He plays on their conscious or unconscious racism. He’s an entertainer. To NoGar I sent to a note about reacting in a way that only makes the racists right; and that is about blacks responding with violence or the threat of violence because that can’t compete on a mental level with anything they don’t understand or don’t agree with. Rush Limbaugh’s rhetoric is not the problem with Black America it’s the embracing of lifestyles and thinking that is counter to the the advancement of our people; for example read some of the “ghetto”, illiterate postings responding to some of the other articles on this site.

    Thank God those who posted on this issue are from thoughtful and insightful bros and sisters who still “keep it real”; but with some intelligence. Off the record it really bothers me to see how some of the tv shows parade exploit this ignorance from both, yes the guests and “the audience too” and nobody seems to notice or comlain about it. To be able to put a sentence together without saying “You know what I’m sayin?” Heck no! Do you know what you’re saying.Even from the posts, most of them can’t make a strong point without feeling that somehow the use of profanity(which to them is probably the norm), is going make the point clearer.

    Step your game up people, some whites like to keep you dumb and ignorant, because then you’re no threat to them.
