I use to be a teacher and I have witnessed first hand how black and white teachers chew the living s**t out of black students, but white students were usually given consideration and a small dose of empathy for their “behavorial problems.” My point is this, black students don’t stand a chance dealing with teachers, especially white ones. If a black student look at a teacher the wrong way or isn’t as excited about doing an assignment, all hell usually breaks loose. Yes, I have dealt with some badass kids who were black, white, and hispanic. Kids are kids and sometimes their backgrounds and what they are expose to on a daily basis at home can influence their behavior in the classroom and so forth. But from my recollection, black kids were always the ones who were suspended first, yelled at like a murderer, and given no mercy by the school adminstration versus the white child who pretty much did the same offense. This women would have never made such a remark or voice her frustration on facebook if she was dealing with all white, s0-called trailer trash children. She would have been frustrated and probably voice the same opinion of them being criminals, but taking the s**t public on Facebook … I seriously doubt it. My suggestion to school districts where majority of the children are nonwhite and probably come from improverish backgrounds, hire qualify educators who are serious about their jobs and not be so damn quick to prejudge a child.

I’ve have been employed as a teacher in a predominately black and latino school and do not treat them any different if I was teaching at an all white school. I will have to admit many white teachers have not been around blacks and latino people…but I am an exception. In fact, while I was going through college and getting my degree in Education, I told the instructors that if a teacher wanted to teach “in the hood” they should live “in the hood” among the people for one year. You should have seen the faces of the young white women. (20′s) when they heard my comment.

When I expressed that I was going to teach at juvenile correctional facility, they all thought I was crazy. I just smiled because I knew I was going into a much safer environment that my peers. I did teach at a mxiumum security juvenile facility where at least 85% of the my students were black or latino. It’s just the facts….and has alot to do with lack of parenting skills, single mothers worrying about their next boyfriend, and placing their needs and wants first before the children. There are many other factors too. It has little to do with income because I’ve met many parents from low income homes who place education as a priority. I’ve seen it all….can’t fool this white woman.

I’m not so sure this is a case in which the NAACP should be involved. One has to ask would there be any controversy if this woman had made the comments in a mostly white classroom. I’ve had the opportunity to substitute teach in classrooms whereby most students were black. The disciplinary problems were unreal! I’m not remotely suggesting that all black kids are problem kids. However, I can relate to the kid of frustration that this woman felt. I’m inclined to believe her frustration was born out a real concern for the kids. The fact that she wanted a “scared straight” program tells me that she’s interested in putting the kids on the right path. I really think there is a lot more to this incident than what’s being presented.

If they are coming into school with severe behavioral problems, there is a good chance that they have a subpar home life, which is likely the home life their parents observed. Wow. Seriously. Some of you act like everything is racism when it’s not. If that was the case, I’d pull the race card in my 14 yr old’s situation. She’s white and she has a diverse group of races that teach her ( or at least try to )….a majority of which are black teachers. Last year, I was always getting calls because of her behavior and/or attitude problems. She has been diagnosed with ADHD, but I choose not to medicate her. The cons of putting her on meds outweigh the pros. Her behavioral issues are real. I don’t say that just because her teachers are black and she is white that she is being targeted because the teachers are racist. That’s just plain dumb.

I take responsibility for not disciplining her enough when she was younger. I spoiled each of my kids and gave them everything they ever wanted, even if they didn’t deserve it. I messed up and work hard to try to steer her in the correct direction now before it’s too late. Behavior problems start at home. It’s not the jobs of teachers to raise our kids or teach them how to act appropriately while at school. Kids should already know what is or is not acceptable behavior in any setting, because they should already know what will or will not get them beat down when they get home.

Would I get offended because a teacher called my problem child a “future criminal”? No. Realistically speaking, if she doesn’t change her behavior she probably will be. I can stress the importance of getting an education until I’m blue in the face, but it’s up to her to use the opportunities to her advantage instead of wasting them.

Just for the record, my oldest and youngest daughters are straight A/B honor roll students with no behavioral issues. They have had some of the same teachers so I am well aware that the problem is with my child, not them…..regardless of what race they are.

I do not agree with this reprimand. We all are aware of the landscape in that classroom in Paterson, NJ. We also know the culture and mindset of a large segment of today’s youth. She was referring to disruptive faction in her class. The group who have no interest in learning or doing better. Largely because they likely don’t have a authority figure at home etc….. Tough job being a teacher in that environment.

Wow you have such hatred its not even funny! The key points you state are true to an extent! Not all single mothers are on the path of destruction that you speak of. What alarming is that my son in one of the top students in his class. The teacher complimented how well verse he was in different areas and can provide a visual for some of the kids to understand what she is trying to teach. This president the same one who had issues accepting with who he was because of his fathers abandonment! To each their own my point was its not all white people and if llike you stated the mothers did a better job being a parent this would curtail some of this rugged behaviour. Its crazy when I honk my car horn and a 5 year old can imitate shooting me and he isnt displaying criminial behavior. U are correct when u say we can’t mke blanket generalizations about ANY one race of people.
And u are also right when u say that these kids are off the chain because parents are failing at parenting. I hate that society expects teachers to have to teach and deal with crazy off the hook kids.
The guy said that most of these kids have mothers still in the club. OK! So what! Does that mean u blame the teachers?!

I do agree that many white teachers have preconceived notions about Black students and are probably more agitated by Black kids disruption than white.
But the real issue is Blck kids in inner city schools…many of them are totally off the chain in classrooms. That’s just the cold facts.

I do agree with u when u say if it were a class full of misbehaving white kids, she wouldnt’ve called them future criminals.
She probably would’ve just vented that those crazy kids are giving her hell!
But the way white america has linked Black skin to criminals, its very automatic that people (not just white ppl…but *2 be real* especially white ppl!) Will se future criminals when they see misbehaving black kids.

See, in our racist society, with our Criminal Justice system and how it works, if u take 30 misbehaving white kids…and 30 misbehaving Black kids, what percentage do u think of white kids that would end up in jail, as opposed to Black kids??
I dare say that 90% more Black kids would wind up in jail. That’s just based on the racist criminal justice system! Sooooo if the white psyche makes them automatically see Black bad kids as future inmates…, and we argue that they wouldn’t see white bad kids as future inmates….mayyybeee its because in the WORLD WE LIVE IN, this is a reality!! She sees it like that, because our world IS LIKE THAT!

The truth always cuts the deepest is what I can see from this story! Teachers always get a bad wrap but have the hardest damn jobs. Some parents cant get there kids to listen let alone teach them home traininig but the teacher is responsible for that same child to retain knowledge!

Oh goodness, another white teacher calling their minority students some type of name. I am almost ready for someone to pull all white teachers out of rooms that teach predominate minority classes because there are way too many stories on this. We cant completely determine whether or not this a race issue. It could be or it also could’ve been that the people just had bad kids. Nowadays, no one takes the time out to properly teach and train their kids. Of course the NAACP was going to jump on this. Smh either way, she was wrong for this statement since she is the kids’ teacher. Don’t teach little kids if you don’t want rowdiness.

Like most of the teachers that have been reported, she was only SUSPENDED so she’ll be back teaching that class soon. All you can do is shrug at this because she only got a slap on the wrist.

Maybe the teacher was right!
