MEXICO CITY — A Mexican official said Friday that officials have lost contact with a helicopter carrying Secretary of the Interior Francisco Blake Mora, the highest ranking official in the country after the president.

A government official says the helicopter disappeared as Blake Mora was headed to a meeting of prosecutors in Morelos state, just outside of Mexico City.

The official couldn’t speak on the record because he was not authorized to discuss the disappearance.

The government fears there could be an accident, the official said.

The secretary of the interior oversees internal political affairs and security.

Blake Mora was appointed secretary in July 2010. President Felipe Calderon lost another interior secretary, Juan Camilo Mourino, in a plane crash in Mexico City in November 2008.
